Run this OTM script. Allow it to reboot to normal mode. If the computer still freezes, temporarily uninstall Mcafee SiteAdvisor & see if it freezes with that uninstalled.

Download OTM by Old Timer from the link below and save it to your Desktop.

    LINK
    • Right click OTM.exe and choose Run as Administrator to run it.
    • Agree to any UAC prompt
    • Copy the following code inside the codebox below. Do not include the word Code:
      :commands
      [CREATERESTOREPOINT]

      :Processes
      Killallprocesses

      :Services
      vToolbarUpdater14.2.0

      :reg
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
      "vProt"=-
      "Adobe ARM"=-

      :files
      C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG Secure Search
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\AVG Secure Search

      :commands
      [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
      [REBOOT]

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste instructions for Items to be Moved window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large MoveIt! button.
    • Click OK to the prompt
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please Allow it to do so if asked.
    • The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot. Copy/paste the contents of that report back here in your next reply.

    Hi waddler,
Thanks for your help, hun. I’ve been a bit poorly hence the slow response.

I ran the OTM by Old Timer and followed your instructions. After I clicked the Move It! button, it seemed to freeze. There was no prompt. Then it started to reboot, there was a flash of a notepad page and it rebooted. I looked at notepad but couldn’t find a log so I ran OTM again. This time it did give me a prompt for rebooting and after rebooting there were two notepad pages on my desktop.
    Here’s the first one, waddler...

A little further information, waddler. I uninstalled Norton a few weeks ago after it expired a couple of months or so ago.

Also, I was looking under Computer - Program Files on my C Drive for my printer and I noticed that there were these 3 folders:
    Program Files
    Program Files (x86)
    Program 1
I remembered that I’d had a repeated message on PC saying that I had a problem with there already being a file with that name and that allowing PC to name it 1 would solve the problem.

Finally, I’ve got an external hard drive which is virtually full - too full for a backup - and I noticed that I’d saved a lot of Windows folders with the cogs icon. I don’t know if I can remove these to create more space or if they’re still on my PC but they take up a lot of room, as does my son’s iTunes folders.

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense, waddler - must still have my chemo head on! ;) Many thanks again for your patience and knowledge.

    Much Love,
    Tiff xxx

    No worries :)

    No, you don't need those.

How's it running now? Is it still freezing?

    Morning waddler,:)
    Thanks for your reply, hunnie.
Sadly, I've reverted to safe mode to post this as it did freeze again.

I'd tried to go back to safe mode last night but got the prompt for starting windows normalyy or windows startup repair. I did choose startup repair, which then went on to attempting repairs and then I got a message ''system volume on disk is corrupt - chkdsk completed sucessfully''. I don't know if this was fixed or not but thought it had been.

I'm going to free up some space by deleting those files on external hard drive and do another backup.

    Thanks so much, waddler.:A

Yes, Norton Online Backup is still installed.

Do you use Norton online backup at all? If not we can get rid of that and the boot driver that's running, which may help.

    Thanks for your reply.

Still running in safe mode as PC's still freezing. How do I get rid of the remaining stubborn Norton stuff please, waddler? I have no idea what's going on with this freezing.

Have you put in the order for a minor miracle yet, waddler? ;)

    Have a good weekend, hun.

    Morning Tiff.

Part of the weekend is being spent with the in-laws. I'm not sure where that fits into "a good weekend" :D

Uninstall Norton Online backup the normal way through programs & features.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/uninstall-or-change-a-program

Then download and run the Norton Removal tool.

Again, I have to say a sincere thank you for your patience and not giving up on me, bless you. Halo is on order.;)
