Always need a phone line for all b/band?

Is there another way to get broadband without using the phone lines?
Satellite?? Got no cable service here.
I've gotten fed up with my speed dropping off when it's busy-my line will do 8Mb,and very often will get me 4 to 6, but other times it crawls down to 250ishkbps:eek:
I live less than 1.5km from my exchange--so that's not the reason.
Could it be that the eclipse servers are overloaded??-not up to the job?
Any advice welcome:D

    Complain to Eclipse.

I was in a similar situation months back and kicked up a fuss. Phone technical support to start with.

But during slow times make sure you keep a log (or screenshots) of any speed tests you've done. In the end I contacted customer services threatening that their service was no longer fit for the purpose I started using it. Within days I was getting good speeds.

My parents are now suffering the same problem with Eclipse. The weekend just gone I was visiting and noticed they were getting 0.2Mbps downstream. That's shocking. They've been with Eclipse since 2002 and even back then were getting much better speeds. I've told them to do the exact same thing.

And if they don't sort it, then move to another recommended ISP. I however have always liked Eclipse. Having said that since around last November they've been going through a bad patch.
