Thanks for the reply Deepocean - very inspiring! You've shared some really good ideas there and I'm itching to give them a try. I'll definitely give matched betting a go. Does this take up much time? I might have to leave it until the summer if I need to commit to it. The mystery shopping thing sounds like it could be a good pass time if not a big earner.
I'm not allowed to share what I make from the adsense ads as this is against the terms I've agreed to. I will share my monthly overall earnings though and that's at about £15 so far and this continues to happen without much intervention at all (although they will dwindle over time if I don't keep uploading new videos to keep my channels 'fresh')
The best thing to do is to give it a go. I'll upload a video to my channel to show how I've gone about setting up my channel when I get a chance.Wins: Sept - Where's Wally T-Shirt!!0 -
Matched Betting can take as much or as little time as you like. When starting off I spent over an hour looking for a good match on a bet which earned me and extra £1.50 or something. Towards the end I was spending no more than 20 minutes on each matched bet but there were probably more profitable bets I could have found. I would do it again but once you have used all the bookies there is not much you can do other than wait for "Reloads" which are other free bets. I would definitely recommend.
£15 is quite good to be fair for for a few visits to your YouTube page, this will surely increase. I might look into this if I can find an idea of a few videos. If you wish in this world to advance, your merits you're bound to enhance; You must stir it and stump it, and blow your own trumpet, or trust me, you haven't a chance.0 -
Thanks for the info. I think I'll definitely give this a go but I'll wait until I have some time off work before I get started - want to make sure I can do some thorough research before I take the plungeWins: Sept - Where's Wally T-Shirt!!0

Hi all. I just wanted to let you know that I have uploaded some more videos to my youtube channel and am currently uploading a video summary of how I got on in my first month of trying to create a passive income.
Any further comments or advice gratefully received.

Reading your thread with great interest Shane.
I think it's definitely a good way to live your life. I am now officially retired but I have always had a few sidelines alongside my main job, some of them have been passive income, some more hands on. I shall simply carry on with them and am even looking to add more.
Here's a few of the most successful things I have tried over the years.
For passive income I took in a lodger.
For more hands on stuff I set up as a beauty therapist in a spare bedroom (I am trained;). I've done sewing and alterations, upcycling furniture to sell on, bric a brac and antique dealing.
I've not tried anything computer based so far but am not ruling it out. I have been thinking about having a go at matched betting but haven't plucked up courage yet.
The point is you can try various things - some can be combined or run alongside each other.
It's car boot season soon. I do these through the summer and make on average a £80 to £100. A couple of those a month will soon improve your bank balance.
I never seem to run out of stuff to sell - family and friends often "donate" their stuff - it saves them a trip to the charity shop or tip.;)
I will also be doing a couple of antique fairs over the summer months.
None of my little sidelines will make me truly rich but all the little dribs and drabs really do add up.
Good luck in your quest.0 -
Thanks for the positive comments - they're really helping to keep me motivated.
I've now finished uploading the video which details how I've managed to make around £250 so far and a little on what I've done with this money.
If you'd like to see the video then you'll have to search youtube for my channel - ditchmyjob.
I'd like to put a direct link to the vid or even embed it but I think this would be removed and I don't want to get myself banned from such a helpful forumWins: Sept - Where's Wally T-Shirt!!0 -

Passive income is brilliant isn't it? Gives you a nice safety net so that you can explore other things. If they pay off, great, if they don't it doesn't matter! But you can have lots of fun trying different things out knowing that the basics are covered. and it expands your circle of friends and social life too. I do this as well, passive gives me the chance to dip my toe into things that I probably wouldn't have the time/money to do if I worked a traditional 9-5.
Like you, I'm looking forward to the outdoor markets, car boots etc in the sunshine:)

This is an interesting thread to me as this month I've just had my flexible working request agreed and I've dropped a day a fortnight but will work later on 2 days each week. It does mean i've reduced my hours overall from 37.5 a week to 35.25 though, a loss of about £1500 gross per year.
So the aim is to make that money back and more but enjoy the freedom of having a day off in the week each fortnight! I'm doing textbroker and have made about £600 since November with that, maybe a little more. So if that carries on for the next 6 months then i'm almost at my target anyway.
But obviously that takes up time to do the writing so I guess I'm looking at more passive income sources, some great ideas here - I'm just worried that with me i tend to like to see results straight away otherwise I don't stick with anything! I suppose that's just motivation and tryinig to see the bigger picture, I've never been good at that!
Got some stuff on ebay at the moment which I hope will make at least £100, and i'm using my first day off next week to take it all to the post office!
Well done to those that have started on this though - i do think its a great idea, I like my job but its not really going anywhere and I'm not desperately ambitious for it to go anywhere in this field so am excited about exploring other options for making money - more creative things that i'm interested in like writing and photography.
The youtube video's sound great , just not sure that's something I could do, but keep the ideas coming! :-)
I'll pop back when I have some more ideas of my own to share!0 -
This thread makes me angry. Why? Because when I was 18 (and younger) I had a little personal blog. You know the kind - 'OMG I WENT TO TESCO AND IT WAS SO FUN!!!!!!'. I was making £50 a month from passive income on it.
I'm 25 now. I've recently (just) got a nice new job that pays me a very very nice wage. If I'd kept up with my little personal blog at the same rate of £50 a month (which I'm sure would grow in time) then I could have £4,200 extra right now.
Anyway, it is definitely doable. At my last job I was substantially low paid for what I did, so would pretty much match my income, or 2/3rds of it, every month, from various sources. The problem with what I do (which isn't a problem per se) is that it relies a lot on selling things and eBay, which means I will run out of stock/stuff to sell.
I now have a little money making blog - nothing big. I don't have any adverts on it, it is purely a 'hi, I tried this, it worked or it didn't work, this is how much money I made from it' and a few referral links here and there. Through referral links I'm making a bit of money.
It really is interesting - I'm now working for an internet company, the third person to join their team, and although I don't know their revenue, it is definitely teaching me some of the ins and outs. I've bought a domain and hosting for my little money making blog, so that's where I'm going to focus my energies on for the next few months. Long term (I'm talking 3+ years from now) I want to be able to go on maternity leave and not have to come back to work.
I'll check out your videos when I get home for sureI like to make money
