Hi all,
I've decided to set myself a challenge. I want to replace 20% of my income so that I can go to my boss and tell him I only need to work 4 days a week. I'm going to try a range of things to do this and I'll be keeping a log of my progress as well as sharing my experiences. I'll be doing this through a youtube channel I have set up for this purpose.
You can find my channel on youtube. The channel name is DitchMyJob. I did have a link here but the admins removed it.
I'm really hopeful that I can reach my goal within 2 years - although I'm hoping to do it in under 12 months.
Any ideas appreciated

What a fab idea!
Do you have any ideas of what you'll be doing yet?
And do you think you'll be able to earn 20% of your current salary working just 1 day a week? I imagine it will take a bit longer although reckon probably worth it.
Good luck and consider me subscribed!0 -
I think I can do it. I've already done the maths and think that with time and the right ideas I'll be able to get there - and hopefully beyond.
I'm starting with ideas suggested on this site - So I'm looking at renting out empty rooms as storage space etc. I need it to be something that'll keep earning without me having to put in regular hours. As I'm a teacher I can only put time into it sporadically.
I'm also having a go at making money through youtube - although I think it'll take a lot to make any serious money out of that.Wins: Sept - Where's Wally T-Shirt!!0 -

Well that will be fine if your boss only needs you for 4 days per week and is letting you work the fifth day out of the goodness of his heart.
Also keep in mind that ways to earn money on the internet can, and often do, disappear overnight without any warning.0 -
Brilliant! I've done pretty much the same thing. Have had enough passive income for quite a long time now that enables me to only work for around 20 hours a week and it means that I can choose the type of extra work I do. Currently on a zero hours contract so if I want to work I can or I can choose not to work, fits in fabulously especially as summer isn't far off! Having a residual passive financial cushion gives me the freedom I want.
Keep us posted, I'll be really interested to see how you get on.'The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes'

Brilliant. It's nice to have found someone that has already achived what I'm looking to do. Are you willing to share how you did this? Where does your passive income come from? Is it something I could try as part of my passive income project?Wins: Sept - Where's Wally T-Shirt!!0 -

I'm glad you're on board. Please share any ideas you have with me. If they're nice and straight forward I'll give them a try and share my experiences.Wins: Sept - Where's Wally T-Shirt!!0 -
When my mum became ill, I went from working 4 days a week to 2 days a week to look after her. She died last year and since then, I've been gradually building up a "career" at home. Tbh, husband earns a good wage so I don't need to earn a lot, but we are taking early retirement at the end of the year so I wanted to find a way to top up our retirement fund as and when I felt like it!
So far, I do Textbroker, I knit/sew things that I sell through work and when we retire, I aim to have an Etsy/Folksey online shop. I sell every unwanted item we have on ebay and I've just found the confidence to start selling my art - in fact, I've just finished my first commission!
Last month, I made in total just over £500 - not a lot, but I loved every minute of it! I love the challenge, the fact that I am earning for me, not for a business, and I'm spending every day just doing the things I enjoy doing. What's not to love? Of course, when we retire, I won't even be taxed on it.
I've never been happier. I work really hard at my little "jobs", but it's a great way of life if you don't have to worry about how much you are earning.0 -
That sounds fantastic. I think £500 a month isn't bad going - can't wait until I reach that amount. How many hours a week do you think you put into making that?Wins: Sept - Where's Wally T-Shirt!!0

Perhaps I should have said, that is my highest income so far and that is because I had a big private article writing commission and a drawing one. Usually, I am happy to make £200-£300 (but to begin with, I was lucky to make £50 a month, so it is creeping up!)
I spend a lot of hours "working", but it's not really work - at least it certainly doesn't feel like - they are hobbies, that I'd probably be doing anyway. It very often feels as if there aren't enough hours in the day to do all I want to do - and that's the point, it's what I WANT to do, not what I have to do.
Today has been sunny and I've done nothing more than potter about in the garden!0
