Currys/Pc world refused a refund

I Purchased an Apple TV from Currys/PC world today. After spending some hours getting trying to get the 'airplay' feature working it turns out my computer does not support it (even though it's an 2010 imac).

Basically I wanted it to stream movies from my computer to my TV and it turns out I cannot.

So, I went back to the store to try for a refund, they refused on the basis the product is not faulty and it had been opened.

My problem is, had I purchased it direct from Apple they would have refunded me with no issues. The second thing that upset me is that the manager was unreasonable and cut me off every time I tried to explain why I no longer wanted the product. Which is embarrassing when its in the middle of a busy store. So I left feeling pretty p*ssed off.

I purchased the Apple TV with my credit card and am considering putting the transaction into dispute - my feeling is that the product is 'not fit for purpose' and the only way to make it 'fit for purpose' is to splash out an extra £1000 on a brand new mac!

Does anyone think I have a leg to stand on?

They don't have to provide a refund in this case, unfortunately. It's fit for purpose, just not your purpose. I'm a little surprised they out rightly said no, try going through head office.

Essentially, the apple product is fit for purpose, just your computer isnt.

The only way you'd possibly be entitled to a refund is if the salesperson had guaranteed compatibility with your model of computer, but even then its usually a case of he said/she said.

Perhaps contact apple and see if there is a patch that fixes it or anything along those lines?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

I have a solution for you if you can not get it refunded, Try "airparrot.com" it will do what you want for a small amount, there is a limited time trial, so you wil be able to try it first.

There are other alternatives but this one works great!.

Well unless you have something in writing from Currys/pc world stating that it will work with you computer.
Then you have no grounds to dispute. Even S75 would not cover this.

What features are you after in your apple tv? Because you can still pull content from your itunes account onto apple TV (I think), you just can't do stuff like airplay mirroring.

Thanks to all that responded. I have tried Airparrot.com, yes that's a great work around.

I think I'll just recoup some cost by putting it on ebay and remember to only buy Apple products from Apple directly in future!

I still don't see how you could possible dispute the transaction or call the product not fit for purpose because your Mac isn't up to spec.

Does that mean any petrol I buy is not fit for purpose as I drive a diesel car? :)

Or you could just use your brain and check if the features are there BEFORE you buy?

You really expect a shop to take back a 2nd hand item and lose a fortune as they can't sell it as new?

    Unbelievable.

If it's unopened, you can take it back within 21 days for a full refund.

In this case - it's opened so that doesn't apply.

It USED to be 21 days irrespective of condition, however no-one wants to buy the now second-hand returned goods without lots of discount, but also want the lowest prices on the goods in the first place - something had to slip.
