    But can you clarify; it can install viruses; and if you don't use it, you don't need it. Apart from generic bubble games etc? Or flash videos, that people don't want/need due to them being adverts.

    Yes, vulnerabilities in Java can be exploited to install malware without any user interaction other than visiting a compromised website that hosts malicious code.
