VIRGIN Credit Card - Decline past MBNA Customers

in Credit cards
I applied for a card fro my father a week ago, he has an A1 credit rating.
During the application Virgin do NOT state that it is their policy that
VIRGIN
Automaticaly DECLINE previous MBNA Cardholders.
My father had a MBNA Card with a £7200 limit on it anf a balance of £0.00
his card had been unused for around two years but was still open, during the several years he had it he never paid late once and always paid his full balance on recipt of the bill.
VIRGIN (as usuall) is a front (trading style, marketing shopfront etc whatever you want to call it) for MBNA - one and the same company...
We applied a week ago
Here are my PPS (P*SS POOR SERVICE) points
PPS 1) No contact was attempted my MBNA (aka Virgin) to inform him in any way he was declined, they waited for him to ring them to query where the forem were.
PPS 2) they declined a good customer AFTER credit scoring him when their policy was to decline in any event
PPS 3) the search may adverseley affect his otherwise A1 credit rating
PPS 4) he was advised even if he cancelled the MBNA card (which remember had been £0.00 balaced and dormant for 2 years) he would be refused a Virgin card, and also ....
PPS 5) .... he would not be allowed to re apply for another MBNA card
PPS 6) during application no appropriate warning was given to the MBNA card issue
PPS7) they wasted his time and my time and their own time COMPETELY NEEDLESLY as we would noy have applied if we had known...
So in summary VIRGIN is MBNA therefore a complete
SHOWER OF SH*T
I advise you to do what I did and vote with your business i.e. ring up and cancel, I reminded them taht they were "not the only show in town"
now is it just me? or does the above actualy qualify them as a compete
"Wanch of Bunkers" ?
WHAT DO YOU RECON?

Dont take it so personally. You win some and lose some. We've all been there.0

Both me and my partner had previous MBNA cards (both open accounts) and got accepted later for Virgin cards, so I don't think that the above experience is due to actual policy.
They even let me split my credit limit between the two cards.
You've obviously had a bad experience, but to be honest, I've nothing negative to say about my dealings with MBNA or Virgin."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Must be a recent policy change as I got a new Virgin card in February having closed an MBNA account in July 2004.0

Same here - recently cancelled an MBNA account I'd had for years and due to bad planning, asked Virgin if they could increase my credit limit by £6000 based on the fact that I'd had a 10k limit at MBNA. They were very helpful - did it over the phone and they transferred £6k (which I needed urgently) into my current account.0

ive applied for an mbna/vigin card twice now,no joy but ended up getting a lloyds advance card 0% 12 months so im kinda glad they did turn me down.0

I was an MBNA customer for years - they can be awkward and unhelpful, but had no problem applying for a Virgin card in February.0

I cancelled my unused MBNA card in Jan.
I was given an A&L card in March(linked with current account) which i cancelled almost imediately.
Applied for,and was given a Virgin card this month,by VERY helpful staff.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0 -
I cancelled my MBNA card before it had a chance to come through the letterbox as I was unhappy about paying 2% charges for a BT. I immediately applied for a Virgin card, was accepted, and I've just completed a BT without paying fees.
I can't understand why they won't allow you to get a Virgin card once the MBNA card is cancelled. Have you actually tried this? Cancel the card, give it a while, then re-apply. Problem solved.0 -
I had an MBNA card for years. It had no benefits so I closed it after a struggle that took two months. Six months later I got the 0% Virgin card with no problems and no BT fee on three transfers.

Hi All,
Maybe they declined him as his credit rating was 'too good' and MBNA were unlikely to make enough money out of him.
MBNA certainly did used to allow at least two cards, as I have an A&L Moneyback card, and about two months after getting this they were trying to get me to apply fo the standard A&L card as well (which I didn't anyway!), both of which are run by MBNA.
Cheers
