Berkey Water Filters

I took delivery of a Berkey Water Purifier (filter) a few days ago and it is absolutely fantastic!
This filter system is gravity fed - you just pour water into a container which houses the purifier and water feeds though into another container below.
This is a true purifer (not just a filter). It removes pathogens (bacteria and viruses) to recognised EU/USA standards and also reduces many heavy metals and chemicals.
The ultimate test of the system was when i poured sugar-free blackcurrant squash into my Berkey and out came pure water - colourless and with the blackcurrant taste removed!
With the gravity fed purifier, I also got a sports-type water bottle fitted with the same filter (albeit somewhat smaller). You can just dip this bottle into virually any stream/river, collecting the mucky infected water, replace the lid, squeeze the bottle and out comes pure water!
The price of the gravity fed Go Berkey system (two stainless steel containers and a black Berkey filter) including the water bottle (with black filter) was just £121 (incl. delivery). You can also purchase the water bottle on its own for £28 (incl. delivery) Larger Berkey gravity fed systems are also available.
Each Berkey filter will filter 11,000 litres of tap water but this capacity is reduced if you filter turbid water. In addition to the black filter (to filter pathogens/heavy metals/ chemicals) Berkey can also supply a fluoride filter. I have not tried the flouride filter as I have really only got the purifier for emergency use - when the River Humber floods or we have a mains water failure and I have to use water from the water butt.
Berkey is an American company but they have an agent in the UK who was most helpful answering my questions and supplied the Berkey very quickly...

Well, I learned a new word -- turbid.
This does read a bit like an advert, to be honest.
Very amateurish website, too.Je suis sabot...0 -
I think Berkey is a fairly small American company and their agent in the UK appears to be a one-man operation. I agree that the website could be a lot better but their products are well made (mostly from stainless steel) and are well regarded in the reviews I have read on the internet.
The water filter industry does appear to be one where outlandish claims about products can be made and whilst I was looking for a water filter I came across two companies clearly at war with one another over their respective claims!
But the claims Berkey make about their filters are verifiable, which is one reason I chose them over other makes.
And the fact that you can put in sugar-free blackcurrant squash and get out pure water instantly demonstrates that the system is doing something!0 -
Hit that :spam: button people.

And why would you want to hit the spam button? Presumably because you have now highlighted the thread by replying to it?
FYI I have no connection with Berkey Water Filters. But the filter did come in handy when my house was flooded 3 months ago so I can still attest to its effectiveness.0 -
Hit that :spam: button people.
Why?
PV is an established member and if he wants to praise something he's perfectly entitled to.
It's true the post does sound a bit like an advert but that's mainly because he's trying to explain why he's praising the system instead of just telling us he likes it.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
The spam button wasn't for OP but another posted who spammed 4 or 5 other threads this morningWhy?

Ah, I see. Why did they choose to spam an old thread?0 -

Why do spammers choose any thread? They search for a related term then hit any results that come up.
PS - I specifically mentioned the spammers name in my post to AVOID accusing you of spamming. I accept no blame nor liability for people's failure to read and comprehend.0 -

You should have used the quote button so that people could see what you are talking about.
Otherwise, if and when the spam post goes it just looks as if you are referring to another post in this thread and mentioning Kelly149114 as an additional spammer. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Why would I quote a spam post? Just makes more work for MSE mods/admins to either edit or have to delete my post, rather than just the spam post itself.
Let's just agree to disagree - we are both right and we are both wrong. Either approach is valid.0
