My son had lessons for nearly a year but he chose to take the pass plus. He thinks it was worth it. (for him anyway)

If the biting point on your cluch is high up, it will need adjusting.

Yep, the problem is when i try to find the biting point. I have no idea why im so nervous.

Nerves are just one of those things and its only practice that will get ride of them.

Getting to know your car takes time too. Most cars don't like to run cold so you are more likely to stall on your way to college in the morning.

Don't worry about what other drivers think. You've paid your car tax, you have as much right to be there as they do.

Why not consider taking your pass plus. Gain the confidence and get cheaper insurance.

    Thanks 4 your reply.

Yes I might consider pass plus, the only thing is i dont have much time because of college and work, but i will look into it.

I like what you said about that i have as much right to be on the road as anyone else, i will have to say that to myself when i stall lol.

As an ex driving instructor I would recommend you do the Pass Plus course, you can do it in one 6 hour session rather than seperate hours, that way you will get a lot more experience.

If you do decide to do one, ask your instructor or find one that that will do it with you in your own car, then you are getting used to handling the vehicle you are driving daily.

I used to charge about two thirds of my normal hourly rate using the pupils own car, as I was not using mine or my petrol.

Above all remember you have passed your test so the basic ability is there it is now just experience and confidence will come with that, it may be worth just practicing your clutch control when you get chance some evening for an hour or two till you get it right in your Ka.

That is good to hear, I always treated Pass Plus pupils as qualified drivers and not learners any more and tried to make it enjoyable, so that people thought they learnt something and it was worthwhile, and not just another way of making money for me.

I think that’s good advice, go out when it’s quiet and practice, pretty quickly the change gear/clutch control will become automatic and you’ll be doing it perfectly without even thinking about it

If its any consolation Business Student, I've been driving for 23 years and while am totally confident around town and if I know the roads..........ask me to drive on the motorway or in an area I don't know and I would become a gibbering wreck.

Ive never had the need to drive far as OH has always done the long distance driving if we have been anywhere but I now find myself in the position of wanting to visit my sister in law in Manchester, who has a new baby, which is two hours away.

Im wondering whether to just go for it and get over my nerves or to maybe book a refresher lesson for motorway driving to give me that bit of confidence.

Like others have said though.......your confidence will come with time and there will come a time when you will think............"What was I getting in such a state about?"

    Good luck. :D

    Thanks for your replies

I've just been out with mom in my car and did another test run to college at 11pm at night.

Mom suggested removing my trainers so i could feel my peddles better, and it worked, so i drove with nothing on my feet. This seemed to alow me to find my biting point a hell of a lot better. Am thinking of doing this tomorrow during my drive to college- Is this safe and legal??

I knew someone who when they first passed their test would only do left turns.

Took 'em fe*kin' hours to do a 5 mile journey! :rotfl:
