Jelly Bean/ICS or humble pie?
Options
Ok, so I have just switched to an Xperia Z from an Xperia Ray,
I have seen a lot of posts about phone data usage, and it always puzzled me as a few tweaks of the set up and my previous Satio and Ray, were very conservative on data usage.
Ok I have been downloading my apps to the new device and generally having a mess around with the handset, the data counter says I have used 228mb, ok this was largely on wifi, but what I don't see on the Jelly Bean handset is the facility to make any changes to reduce data use (other than battery stamina mode , which appears to work)
I do have an unlimited data plan so in a sense it doesn't matter, but as the old saying goes, you never miss the water until the well runs dry.
Am I missing finding where any data setting changes are?
On my gingerbread device, Background data was on but autosync off.
Likewise with bluetooth, I don't appear to see a setting for bluetooth other than on/off.
Finally, any UK users managed to set up or use google wallet?

I know I can do that, I mean I can now see why some users whine that their data is gobbled up quickly, last month I barely used 250mb and I do all I need to on the phone, but it seems the modern phones just gobble data from any and everywhere, although I'm sure the keynote when JB was launched was ways of curbing data usage, also the bluetooth, just on/off, when BT is on and appears invisible the power consumption is much reduced as the handset is not a beacon transmitting all the time.0 -

I did it to buy my Nexus 4 and have used it since to buy other items.last month I barely used 250mb and I do all I need to on the phone, but it seems the modern phones just gobble data from any and everywhere
I've found this as well. Went from a Gingerbread based phone to a Jellybean one and have used more than twice the data I usually get through in a month in just 2 weeks!
ETA: Your thread got me looking through my phone. On stock Android under 'data usage', if you go into settings there is the option to check/uncheck auto-sync and restrict background data. I would imagine it would be in a similar place with Sony's interface.0 -
Settings - Data usage then options to turn data on/off or set a data usage limit, drag the bars on the table up or down , orange is to warn you when you get close and red is to turn data off when you reach your limit.0

yes, I found it on jelly bean ,
it is under settings-data usage-menu-autosync data
This is what I had switched off on my ray.
I knew something was 'up' when the gmail pushed through and the calendar updated instantly, that said the data is only on when the screen is on, looking at my data counter , using about 23mb/day now.
Without care that could put £90+ a week on a European holiday and a lot lot more elsewhere in the world .0 -
Wait, what? How?
I'm aware of what needs to be done to get Google Wallet installed (have done it on my Nexus 4), but transactions fail.
Perhaps I asked the question in the incorrect manner, when I meant google wallet, I meant for contactless in store purchases.
It seems I already have google wallet from looking at my account.
Perhaps what I am after is not available in the UK yet.
Some schemes replicate the card details or basically charges like to a holding account and then deducts from the card supporting that account (think like paypal).
Some will require liason from the card issuer and the network, but there seems little in it for the card issuer.0 -
Dammit, I thought there'd been a break through for a minute there :rotfl:0
