BACS transfer via Credit Card?

I'm paying a deposit for my wedding reception venue soon and I got the paperwork from them today. They've requested payment via BACS or cheque.

Ideally I wanted to pay on my credit card (Natwest Mastercard) for the extra protection. I wont be able to go there in person for some time, so was wondering if I can pay online using my CC. I logged into Natwest and it looks like I can make a payment using my CC, but it doesn't mention anything about it being a BACS payment.

Couple of questions:
1) Would this online payment be BACS (or wont they care as long as they get the money?!)
2) Will I still have the same level of protection (section 75) if I use this method of payment rather than a card payment in person?

Are you referring to their 'money transfer' feature? If so, that will not provide for any section 75 (or chargeback) protection.

It looks like, the only mention of it I can see is: "Please note that these payments will be treated as money transfers so there is no interest-free period.".

Oh well, guess I'll have to make the journey in person :(

    Thanks for the help :)

What's the point in the 'journey in person'?

They can't do 'cardholder not present' transactions presumably?

So the only way to get the desired section 75 protection is to take the card to them.

Appreciate I'm reading between the lines somewhat! ;)

    x2
Another presumption is that they do 'cardholder present'. :D
I appreciate they almost certainly do, but it's not what the OP said.

Correct, although I too assumed they can't do 'cardholder not present' transactions, so probably worth a ring Monday morning. Thanks again :)

If they can't do "Cardholder not present" transactions, they probably won't be able to do credit card transactions at all.

Which all seems a bit fishy to me, if they don't take card payments maybe they don't want their customers to have S.75 protection?

It's not like "being a small outfit" is an excuse, even I can take card payments... and I'm just an individual...

Why wouldn't they? It's no skin off their nose!

I suppose not but it makes you wonder, maybe they had been subject to chargebacks in the past, and had their facility revoked or chose to give it up in favour of BACS transfers which leave the consumer with absolutely no protection whatsoever?

It will be when the card provider rings them and starts to try to get things sorted.

Many retailers are happy to stand upto a indervidual, but when the bank rings them its a diffrent matter as the boot is on the other foot.
