The rising cost of fruit and veg

I normally shop at Aldi for my main shop, but this week apart from the super six and bananas it all looked expensive.
The bag of potatos I normally buy had gone up to 1.75, sure it was 1.25 last week, know the weather has caused problems, but trying to improve my diet and eat more fruit and veg but I am on a budget and its getting harder and harder.
Think I may try my local maket next week, but will it be cheaper?
Tried a green grocer in the next village and it was mega expensive, it was a normal one not a trendy one.

Aldi is my favourite supermarket for the cheapest veg. Sometimes the greengrocer has better deals if I bother to shop around. I have occasionally found farmer's markets to be cheaper than expected too, even for organic. I think it just depends!0

My newish favorite shop is Asda. I often find plenty of whoopies there. Last week I bought black grapes, half price.
Often food items are reduced, including fish, meat fruit and veg.
It that fails I buy the smart price range. When I get home all the tell tale bags go in the bin, Ha, ha...The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
I must admit to not being too impressed with this weeks super six and got my fruit and veg on the market this week. Potatoes are 4lbs for £1 and a big bag of kale for 75pBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Yes prices have been rising I guess root veg especially because of the bad growing weather last year. I have almost stopped buying at supermarkets except for oddities like fennel, find supermarket fruit and veg expensive and iffy quality. I did try Lidl and Aldi (bit of a drive for me though) and found the quality and size of veg very variable though sometimes a real bargain.
Not sure of your options, but I found a few farm markets within short driving distance and buy there almost exclusively. 25kg potatoes for £9-10 (up from £7 last year) but still a good deal good qualiky and last ages, 5kg carrots for £2, 5kg onions £2 etc. Cabbage and kale etc all dead cheap and nice stuff. All from local farms.
I tend not to buy much fruit in the winter as it is generally tasteless and expensive and I can't believe with the big travelling distances and preservatives any nutrition can be left in them LOL (Asda have some smashing oranges at the mo though). Same goes for some veg, haven't eaten a tomato for ages (am fed up with buying pricey toms and finding the only thing they are fit for is disguised in a sauce or casserole). Tend to bottle my own toms but were wiped out with blight last year grrrrr. Buy some things in the local village like sprouts and cabbage just to support them.0 -
I get mine from the local greengrocer. I prefer it because I can buy just one courgette or potato if I want to. The prices are not that bad if you consider that I only have to go over the road and not use petrol.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Might look at getting more frozen but I only have a small freezer.
Found some tinned fruit in my top cupboard so will be eating that!0 -
Have to say that I shopped at Aldi and Lidl for ages but have been going back to Asda lately, their fruit and veg seems to last longer and has been cheaper too. We don't have a greengrocer or market here and Aldi and Lidl seem to sell their fruit and veg in pre-packs so there's usually more than I need, Supermarkets mean you can just have what you need.0
