VERY want my signature to confirm an undelivered parcel

So I was expecting a parcel from VERY (a replacement tablet for my son he had at christmas and it broke)
Had a text to say it had been delivered....couldnt' find it outside anywhere, checked with neightbours, nothing..... email tracked it with YODEL, it said delivered..... rang very, who said it wasn't due for delivery yet.... confused?!?! They investigated and rang back and said that it HAD been delivered and the courier company said that they left it on the doorstep and that a woman with dark hair took it in..... I said that is wasn't me as at the time it was stated as delivered was 7 in the morning and I KNOW i was in bed!!! The woman said she was sorry and would issue me a refund. Ok I thought I will order one from somewhere else after that hassle.
But then 5 minutes later there was another call from the same woman saying that she had realised that it had apparently been signed for so had to send me a letter to verify my signature.... something screwy going on, either it was delivered and signed for or left on the doorstep?!?.... anyway I have now got the letter saying that I have to provide proof of my signature within 14 days. ..I am really dubious as whats to say that when I send it they won't just turn around and say that its a match and that's that and I have to pay for something that I haven't even got?!?!
Someone please advise me. can i request to see this 'signature' that they have??

This would be normal practice, they compare them, if they think it isnt a match then they deal with it as appropriately. If they think it is a match they send you a copy of it for your comment.
Of cause it is all a bit of a waste of time because if you were trying to defraud them you would simply get a friend/ family member or such to do the sample signature on your behalf so that it doesnt look anything like what was signed.
Likewise, I strongly suspect their staff are in no way trained to compare signatures, I know I wasnt back in my days of mail order and having to deal with these sorts of cases.
What they more want is a signed letter from you saying it isnt you. People tend to be more comfortable with lying on the phone/ by email etc than they are when they have to put their signature next to it.0 -

You buy on credit, Very themselves provide the credit.... ie you order, receive the item and then pay off in installments.0 -
Without a copy of the signature they have for evidence, they have a cheek expecting you to trust them with a copy of yours when the driver has nicked your parcel.
You can prove, yours it is on your driving licence, I would make them send a copy of what they have first.Be happy...;)0 -
If they wanted a serious comparison then they would ask for a copy of a passport or driving license - of cause you'll be amazed at how many then claim to have neither.
As said, it is a test but not one to actually compare signatures. Sign what they want and send it back.0 -
You don't really loose anything by giving a signature
Best bet, they refund you (or credit it back to the account) worst case you're in the same situation as you are now.
I see it going a few ways if you refuse. People refuse if they are guilty or believe they've been found out so drop the refund request.
Refusing just makes things harder for you. They COULD also argue that they won't show you the signature first because it's a Data Protection issue, (showing a signature from another person etc). If they then say, the signatures match then you can get a copy.
TL;DR, give them the signature.0
