Budget Tablet that takes a SIM card

I really think you should go the Mifi route for signal reasons, basically the device talks to the phone network and relays data to the tablet via wifi. Now the phone signal may be iffy in a caravan or due to the location of the site, and in a tablet with the 3G built in the aerial is in the tablet, the place you want to sit in your caravan may be terrible for signal which could get very frustrating!
With a Mifi device, you can put the Mifi where IT gets the best phone signal and as long as your tablet is within 10 metres of it it will get connection wifi'd to it OK.
Many Mifi can run a long time on a built in rechargeable battery, weather permitting you could probably put the thing on the caravan roof for the best signal!
The stronger the phone signal you get, the faster the mode the equipment will work in and the quicker your internet use will be.0 -
As a relatively budget tablet the Nexus 7 is worth a look.
I also recommend the MiFi route rather than a built in SIM.
Caravans have metal walls so often the best 3G reception is found by a window. It is convenient to place the MiFi by a window but that may not be the best place to use the tablet.0 -
I have an £80 7" tablet which I regularly connect to the internet via my 3 dongle. I have a 5 metre extension cable for it which helps in getting the dongle in the best position, signal-wise.
By the way, I use the dongle when I'm away in my touring caravan!David.0 -
As someone mentioned above, playbook - can often be found for £110, and either a mifi or cheapo android phone with an http://ovivomobile.com/ simcard. Pay £15 for a sim, which becomes credit, get 500mb every month - no more topups ever required.
At least until they go bust
Edit
One of these dongles
