O2 cancellation woes

Hi all

I have just finished talking with an O2 representative over the procedure to have my contract terminated. My contract is due to expiry (1 year) on the 03/07/2007, and I want it to terminate exactly on that date.

To start with, apparently this is not possible over the phone. Now What I am told is that I have to write "around the 01/06/2007" because then they should "hopefully receive it on the 03/06/2007" and start counting 30 days so that the cancellation will take place on the 03/07/2007.
They say there is no way to specify a termination date on the letter: they will always start counting 30 days from when they receive the termination letter.
From my perspective, if they receive the letter too early, I am in breach of my cashback conditions. If they receive too late, I am paying for days of connection for which I have no cashback. Now this may sound overzealous, but I find it incredible that you cannot know when you contract will terminate.

At what point I asked to speak with someone for a compalina nd was told I had to write for a complain, there was no-one to speak to.

I then asked for the address and was put on hold for 5 mins, at which point I hanged up...

Any input appreciated.
MR

i was told the same thing, you can't cancel over the phone any longer.

i sent my cancellation notice on the 11th and they claim they recieved it on the 18th(1st class recorded).

This sounds weird to me, I called them up (O2) and cancelled my contract over the phone just last month. I asked when the contract expired, they told me the date, I said I wanted it to finish on that date then and that's what happened (after letting them have a little go at trying to give me a better deal to keep me as a customer, which I declined). I asked if I needed to put it in writing and they said no, there was no need as they can do it over the phone, they were sure who I was due to asking 100 security questions (nearly).

i rang twice as sometimes you can get a numpty who doesnt know what theyre doing, and both times i was told it had to be in writing!

i went thru the upgrade department too, and at the end they said i would have to send in written confirmation of my cancellation request

Ok I know the rules about the PAC code - but this is not a transfer, I just want to terminate my contract, and the exact date on which this is going to happen is down to royal mail delivery times? Surely there is a problem.

why not get a PAC from O2, say on 15 June, then 5 working days before your contract ends, contact Virgin or Orange (or whatever free PAYG sims you have) and ask to port in the number from O2.

This will effectively 'cancel' your O2 contract as soon as the port take place, on the day you want, and you can throw away the PAYG sim afterwards.

Problem with that is O2 won't give you the PAC code until the end of your contract, so either way you'll be with O2 for a few extra days...

I've switched from o2 pay-monthly to a Orange pay-as-you-go. When I rang o2 Customer Services today to get my PAC code the guy I spoke to said I should have told them I wanted to keep my number before I cancelled my a/c, because it's disconnected now & there's no chance of getting the code
