Dont bother checking up on me then because I rarely reuse carrier bags. Not for shopping anyway. I reuse them all the time at home for small bin liners (bathroom etc) and for a host of other things. If I didnt use carriers I would have to buy plastic bagsso I hope no one ever comments on my use of plastic bags!!

What ever happens, I'll never stop tutting!
(I am my mother's daughter after all
)
That made me smile. I was on my own for many years after the kids had moved out, and working long hard hours and had gotten into the ready-meal habit.
My daughter was the one who used to tut at me, too much sugar, too much salt, too many e numbers, etc etc
I knew she was right and finally came back to home cooked meals. I still use gravy granules, packet mixes, and sauce mixes sometimes; but there is such a difference in taste in home made, I didnt realise what I was missing with my ready meals!
and my daughter has stopped tutting now ....... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I am laughing inwardly at the thought of people looking in my trolley!!!!
I buy most of my fruit and veg from the market or greengrocers so I tend to buy the heavy stuff on in the supermarket (onions and potatoes). Fish from market.
I buy breakfasts cereals when on specials so, its quite often 10 boxes a a time. Ditto with good specials. But no ready meals; for 5 healthy appetites it wouldn't quite work.
So if you see someone with the most unbalanced trolley, don't wince it could be me:DI lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
I do my shopping in different places. If you saw my trolley in Lidl you'd think I lived on vegetables and wine. If you saw me in Aldi it would lok like all I eat is cold meat and cheeses and anyone who spots me in Tesco would see me buy my cleaning products and tinned food.
So appearances can be deceptive.
Also if I'm ill and haven't stocked the freezer my OH will buy ready meals and if we can't get a babysitter we will splash out on Tesco finest ready meals for a treat. (Oh what an exciting life I lead) :rolleyes:0 -
My goodness what a lot of replies
Anyway - firstly I'm certainly not offended and I know that OS isn't for everyone, not to mention that as I said, when I was single I was JUST as bad
My grandmother cooked from scratch, my step mother cooks from scratch, my mother... kiiiiiiinda cooks from scratch uhmmm sometimes... maybe... (I still can't eat uncle bens sweet and sour sauce without heaving... or even think of it...)
People can ofcourse buy and eat what they wish, but having cooked from scratch for some time then I am now thinking that I can't see a way back... I occasionally walk past the ready meals and they don't appeal to me. I know how much salt and addatives are in those little portions and frankly batch cooking means I usually have at least 2 or 3 different kinds of "ready" meals in my freezer. I am merely amazed that the "older" generations whom I'd have expected to know how to cook, would prefer meals that are full of frankly rubbish...
Is the OS way better? personal choice I thinkDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
I agree OS is better ... but do still dip into the odd ready meal for sanity's sake. This is once in a blue moon, though, as I feel bad about not cooking fresh for the kids and ready meals tend to be a let down. DS1 is taking butternut squash and leek soup with fish finger sandwiches into school for lunch tomorrow, and he is well excited. That's Numberwang!0

I'm a single man in my early 30s and I mainl cook from scratch. It tastes better and it means I can put proper ingredients in rather than excess salt, hydrogenated tat. I'm now mr pious shopping trolley observer. "Look at that person over there with 4 mega bottles of coke". Tut. "look at them with there bumper packs of crisps". Tut. "ready meals?" Tut.Happy chappy0

Think our taste buds get re-educated when we go OS too!
I used to love Linda McCartney sausages and pies etc; havent had any of it for ages until I had a pie the other week at a friend's house. Couldnt believe how salty it was and I can't belive I never noticed that before!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I do a big shop every 6-8 weeks and stock up on things that are long life, or heavy to carry. Anyone looking in my trolley would think we eat nothing but tins and use an awful lot of bog roll! They wouldn't know that in between times I go shopping on foot and get fresh produce when it's needed.
The weirdest trolley I ever saw consisted of nothing but litres and litres of soya milk, and loads of black pudding. I can't imagine what that family's diet is like
I'm sure some people would look down their nose at my economy brands and reduced stickers. Stuff them0 -
If I was single again I'd probably survive the same as I did at uni.... vitamin pills, a loaf of white bread, bit of pasta, cheese and some 3 minute noodles :rotfl:
It was easy, cheap, fuss free and I was a size 10!!
And this comes from someone who before a full day of work today baked brownies, choc chip muffins, made OH lunch, my lunch and made a start on the curry for dinner.
Ah well.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
