Laptop burnt my leg!

Hi all - just want some advice please.
I noticed yesterday that my laptop was quite warm and had it on my lap. When I went to change my clothes, I have noticed quite a substantial burn mark on my leg. (I can send piccies).
I have contacted Samsung about it and they have not really said anything.
Should I take this further does anyone think?
Thanks for the advice.

How could you not know it was burning your leg?The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

My Dell laptop gets really, really hot, so I bought a fan device that keeps it cool.
I suppose it really depends on how long you've had it for and whether you followed their user instructions. Maybe the instructions advise not putting it directly on your lap.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -

Although they are called laptops, they really shouldn't go directly on your lap. Use a lap tray underneath the laptop.
What happens is, bare legs, or clothed legs, you block the air supply for the fan that is underneath and can cause the laptop to over heat even more.
Laptops get hot usually anyway, with this combined you can generate even more heat, and potentially cause it to catch fire.
One more reason to not use a laptop directly on bed clothes too. It's just not good for the laptop.
Blaming samsung for your own caused issue is a bit of a joke though. Hot over a period of time will cause burns, surely everyone knows this?
If your laptop runs hot naturally, then buy a lap tray and a small usb fan to place underneath it to give additional cooling. Some laptops do run hotter than others, depending on what's being done on them, and what components it has inside that needs powered, but also whether the fans clear of dust and dirt too.0 -
The problem might be the cooling fan has clogged up with fluff.
when I dismantled my dell it was completely blocked with fluff.
get a lap tray with a hard top for better air flow and more comfortable.
you can get computer ones with lights and wrist rests but the standard ones are under £10.0 -

If it's less than a year old that doesn't sound good, but if they instruct you not to put it directly on your lap then maybe then have covered themselves. You can install this thing called heatfan on your laptop and it reads the temperature, that's what I did. With the fan it brings if down another 30degrees and has stopped it from shutting down due to overheating.
They do advise not to put your laptop directly onto your lap. There is a potential cancer link.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
OP is this an actual burn on your leg or *just* a red mark?
I cannot understand how you could have something on your lap for any length of time that is hot enough to burn you. Natural instinct would alert alert you to burning and you would move the source immediately.
The fact you had no clue about this 'burn' until you changed clothes suggests this is not an actual burn and is just a red mark similar to any that would be got from any heat source.
Perhaps you could post a pic here to help us understand?Herman - MP for all!

That reminds me of an old, old story.

I am being genuine when I say it was hot but I didn't think it was burning. I am not trying to BLAME anyone or get anything, I just thought I should let them know because i wouldn't want it to happen to anyone else.
I have just ordered a fan and a laptop tray!
