I packed in PH recently after 21 years. Most of that I used either Grayson's or Cabshield 0800-413271.
Gayson's are now part of Swinton insurance but remain their Hack/PH arm.
Of the two, I'd say Cabshield offer better deals. Grayson's had the advantage of being local to me so I got to know the broker, Peter, very well and it was handy to go face to face when there was a problem.
Many of the lads I worked with swore by Freeway.
Problem with all of them is that the number of underwriters is very small so rates can be uncompetitive at times. In some postcodes though, rates can vary wildly depending on any particular company's experience with claims there. Some will offer good terms, get loads of business in a postcode or LA and then drop out a year or two later when they get their fingers burnt. Happened to Ecclesiastical on Merseyside in the 90's.
So, if a broker can't offer acceptable terms with their particular panel of underwriters, don't despair...another might have an underwriter looking to expand business in your postcode.
