i highly disagree. There is too much focus on treating customers fairly.... bad press and the need to support the customers will always over rule in the banking environment we currently live in!

So your saying a CSR overrides a legally binding T&C document?

9 time out of 10 yes, especially when its for smaller amounts....
  • i applied for it today. they say i will receive some documents to sign and then i will receive my card and other items etc...

i think this will be a better option, considering just seen my barclays isa and its gone down to 2.08%, so atleast im getting 4% here and yet i can do as many withdrawls as i want as long as i make sure theres 2.5k before midnight!...you cant go wrong for the deal your getting...

also another reason why i thought id go for this nationwide flexdirect acc is due to halifax have released there isa deal of 3% for 3 years fixed, which suggests the variable rates will stay around that or possibly lower than that...

Don't forget we are on about Nationwide charging here, not getting refunds when a charge has been made. We have already figured that no fee is legally due, so your saying that a CSR saying a £5 charge is payable overrides the T&C which says no charge is payable.

I applied, got to the page where it says it's running a credit check & then got this error
We are sorry but due to essential maintenance our application form is currently unavailable.

    Please try again later.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Does that mean to apply again i'll have 2 credit checks ran on me? I only ask as we'll be buying a house soon & don't really want 101 credit checks having been ran on me in the month before we look to move.

You could call them on 0800 302010 to check. However I have called them in the past to check on a transaction as the online banking doesn't show the full details until the day after it is made. They couldn't tell me either and could only see the same as the online banking was showing.

I wouldn't risk another application so there was a post on here yesterday that someone had several searches on their file after doing something similar.

For those who whatever reason are unable to use a PIN, then Nationwide assured me in a telephone call yesterday that Chip & Signature Cards are available with this account.

You will thus be able to draw cash, in Branch on the strength of your Signaure with your FlexDirect Chip & Signature.

I've asked Natiowide if they'll make this information available on their website.

Has anyone been able to confirm how many accounts one person is allowed? I asked in branch and they scratched their heads for a bit and then said that I could, but it would take 20 minutes so I tried online and got accepted for a second. So that's 1 Flex Account and 2 Flex Directs at the mo but don't want to push it?

I don't think there is any limit to the number of accounts. I know people who have held 5 Flexaccounts for years, because they liked to budget for different things in different accounts.

The big Q for FlexDirects is whether you get the interest on more than one account. The T&Cs aren't totally clear on this point, but each successful FD application ends with a confirmation screen stating you have the 5% interest / free overdraft deal. Time will tell.
