Getting ripped off ????

In Sept 2012 I had a gable end wall re - rendered. To do this I needed some scaffolding above my garage. The cost was £180 for the scaffolding and it was up for about 3-4 days and was fitted by a local company.

I am in the process of getting cavity wall insulation fitted through British Gas. The surveyor said I would need some scaffolding for the gable end and British Gas would get me a quote. They have since rung me to say a company called Hercules have quoted £780 for the scaffolding !!! British Gas have said they will pay £450 and have asked me to pay £300 towards the rest.

I have challenged this figure with British Gas and have twice been told " er...we'll check and get back to you'.

My gut feeling is that somebody is being ripped off here and I have threatened to take it further which appears to meet with stalling tactics from British Gas.

Anybody got any thoughts or had a similar experience ?

So supply your own scaffolding for around £180.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • They won't let me. Has to be the company that they have contracted to

Well cancel British Gas and go somewhere else for your cavity wall insulation.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Technically I should be getting it free . Wherever I go, I will have to pay for the installation and the scaffolding. If I go anywhere else , it will cost more than the £300 I would have to pay British Gas. I just feel that British Gas are perhaps trying to recoup some money for something they should be giving out for free.
