Gift payment of £50 to reserve the car for 24 hours from the time they arrange.

Anything other than that = CASH.

And get yourself a note checker. Pen and UV light. Cheap on ebay.

Definitely some good advice above, be very careful.

That said, I have bought cars unseen over the phone before (never offered to pay without seeing it, but have made an offer and gone to pick the car up with cash in hand on the basis that I will buy it for that amount if it's as described). But that was for a couple of rather uncommon cars which I really didn't want to miss out on and which were located at the other end of the country to me.

I feel your pain though - it's a nightmare trying to sell a car now, too many scams seem to be about. A while ago, my OH nearly went for the oil rig one, but thank goodness asked me before he replied to the email.

Another one I've had was someone I suspect was a dealer - rang me up, told me my car was worth a third of what it was advertised for and that no-one would pay what I was asking and asked for my details so he could pay me right there and then, car unseen, and come and pick it up the following day. Told him to go away and sold it the next day for £50 under the asking price.

    Absolute blummin' minefield...

Cash on collection. That is all!

No point part paying with paypal, if they are genuinely interested they will be there with the cash quick.

    This tbh. Cash FTW.
  • If the buyer does send you the money, and received. The buyer collects the car without inspecting it,drives it home and puts a complaint saying the seller didn't advertise truthfully, and will demand a refund
