Hi All,
I listed my car on ebay and someone called up and said they would transfer the money to pay pal now and come and collect it without even seeing it?!
Alarm bells started ringing and so I said i want cash and he is going to transfer 200 to pay pal and then cash on collection - he wants to move very quickly which is worrying me! I said i would get back to him.
Car is on ebay for over £1000 more than what i was offered in part exchange so its not a bargain or anything
thanks

If you take paypal how you gonna prove delivery when they submit an item not received claim?0

My thoughts exactly!
I am still not sure if to contact him back and agree to the paypal 200 and the rest in cash!0 -

Vehicles are not covered under any paypal protection so an INR won't happen.
However, this doesn't mean that the purchase will be safe as if the paypal account was funded with a credit card then the card holder can still attempt a chargeback.0 -
As long as you are getting cash thats already well over the offer you would have got all you're chancing is the 200 that could be claimed back in paypal its your choice - will the car sell to someone else? If not I'd take the money and get him to sign a sold as seen receipt.0

Tell him £50 deposit if that's what he wants otherwise first at your door with the cash gets it.
Remember to get copies of a reciept etc and you can always photocopy the new keeper info before you post it off.
That would be your proof of item recieved. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
I agree with previous posts - accept small amount (200 if you wish) on Paypal as a deposit. as long as the cash balance is more than the Part Exchange value, you should be ok as you won't be handing him any cash back.
Make sure the notes are genuine ... :eek:0 -
I would never accept any part-payment for a collection in person item such as a car via Paypal.
This guy sounds like a chancer. I had one look at my Octavia and offer £250 for it as it was 'spares/repairs'. It went for over double that in the end.
My best advice is to let the auction run it's course. You may well get far more for the car than this guy is offering.Never Knowingly Understood.

The amount of scam emails I had through selling on AutoTrader was ridiculous.
Most was, I will send money via PayPal in full and have my agent collect it.
Do not accept anything other than bank transfer OR cash next to a bank so they can check for fraudulent notes. Any other method is not trustworthy.:j

The usual Scam works by :
Buyer paying by paypal :
kok and Bull sob story about Granny dying or Stuck on an oil rig....Can not collect now
For wasting your time, you can keep half the money if you refund half the paypal payment .
Week or so later... Payment turns out to be made with stolen card details.
paypal, rescind the Credit from your account.
You are left what you refunded out of pocket.Be happy...;)0 -
Cash on collection. That is all!
No point part paying with paypal, if they are genuinely interested they will be there with the cash quick.0
