Can't see front and back of car when parking - suggestions?

I have a nearly new Skoda Fabia, just acquired to replace my clapped out Renault Clio, as a town run around. Problem is parking it in tight spaces, usually the case round here.

I am short, so even with the seat jacked up I cannot see the end of the bonnet, and the design of the car makes it impossible to tell how much clearance I have at the rear while in the driver's seat.

As I need to park in a lot of tight spots, any aids on the market to help visibility when parking would be handy, at least until I memorise the size of the car. At present I have to keep getting out of the car and seeing how much space I have left.....

  • I would argue that this is the case for a lot of people with a lot of cars.

The rear normally isnt an issue as the rear doesnt protrude too much beyond the rear windscreen. I have seen people taping a straw or other such small thing to the front grill to help them initially learn the length of the front of the car.

Short of getting parking sensors it tends to be a case of simply learning
  • You could adopt the Spanish method which is basically you keep moving backward or forwards until you feel the car stop. It' known as Besar (Kiss) parking.

I don't hink a car exists that you can really see the ends of. Just practice (hopefully with something forgiving like a cardboard box) and you'll get used to it.

Parking sensors can be retrofitted to any car. Ask the Skoda dealer who fits their system as they are sometimes a dealer fit option once the car is delivered.

Can you still by Fresnel lenses for the rear window?

Try fitting small cameras on the bumpers relayed back to the dashboard?
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

If you cant see the end of the bonnet because you are too short then you shouldnt be driving the car.

Did you not read the bit about being too short? far too often i see drivers who are too short for the type of car they drive, the worst are the yummy mummys driving the large 4x4's that they can barely see over the wheel of and the oaps who sit so low that you can just about see them in the car.
