Catch-up TV device wanted?

Options
Does anyone know of a device that will get me all catch-up TV channels (BBC iplayer, ITV player, 4OD & Demand 5)? This is all I need out of Smart TV and don't need to upgrade my tele so I'm expecting there must be a cheapish box out there to do it. The Point of View stick (recently advertised in Maplin's newsletter) seemed just right but I need something with an ethernet connection as well as Wi-Fi due to limited home BB speed.

Humax YouView, if you are on the Freeview platform. This integrates the on-demand facilities into the standard Freeview EPG, along with a Freeview PVR.
    Cheapest at Richer Sounds usually.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If you are giong to Richer Sounds, join their newsletter and get a token emailed for £10 discount.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Or you can get a YouView box via TalkTalk's TV Plus package for £15 pm plus line rental for 24 months I think.

A lot of people slag TT off, but I have to say I signed up about 6 months ago and they've been very good and the box itself it good.

    YouView. End of. lol

It's a Freeview HD box and contains all the catch up players too. Plus it has a back catalog library numbering over 20,000 items, which are free to access too.

They retail at £250. Or you could sign up for phone & BB from either TalkTalk or BT and they'll give you one for free, if you sign up for they're basic TV packages.

You'll need a minimum BB speed of 3Mbps for a retail box, 5Mbps via the ISP's boxes. Definitely worth a look.

Is it more cost effective to get the BB/phone from BT or talk talk than to buy the box outright? I do already have Apple TV and on demand sky box but looking to move away from Sky.

You could get a USB TV adapter for your computer and use that to record live TV.

Also iplayer ITV player etc can be viewed on your computer or even using a Wii if you have one.

I watch all my TV programmess on my computer using a combination of a USB adapter and a PCI satellite adapter and a few proxy server to watch the latest US programmes.

Thanks st999, would I find info on the techie forum about the proxy server in order to watch the latest US programmes? Are any USB TV adapters recommended and how much realistically should I pay please.

If it was posted there it would probably be removed as it even allows you to get to pirate bay, which Virgin has caved in on and blocked.

    is one

then start at tv.com to watch US TV programmes.

As for a TV USB adapter I would just buy whatever has suitable software to enable turning your computer into a PVR.

Windows Media Centre can do it.
