Community Care Grants & Crisis Loans STOPPING in April 2013?

My daughter rang up re a community care grant & they told her on the phone they were STOPPING on 1st April 2013 as were crisis loans???

All I can find out about the crisis loans is the DWP will no longer be responsible for them?

As for community care grants it does say they will be stopping here ;https://www.gov.uk/community-care-grant

I know I am not on the ball about all these benefit changes etc and I don't even UNDERSTAND them to be honest but it was a bit of a SHOCK to find out they are stopping ccg's and crisis loans

I don't ever take out crisis loans as my family help each other out as much as they can in a crisis thankfully but it seems this government are squeezing people who genuinely have hardly anything in the first place and the real 'crisis' will be when people are starving & living without heating & hot water etc

These new 'welfare reforms' in my opinion are penalising the poor more and more until they are backed into a corner with no way out as not everyone CAN work or support themselves and the vunerable need to be cared for in this country ( for heavens sake! )

This is correct - they are being 'localised'.
Which in essense means that it's a postcode lottery as to how your application for help is dealt with.
It's going to rather differ in Tower Hamlets and Richmond.

For example is my local council.
Because of the changes to the welfare benefits system, from April 2013 both Crisis Loans and Community Care Grants will become the responsibility of local councils to administer. How this new system will work and how you can apply is still being decided, but will be made known before the changes come into place.

    Well, great.
Glad there's no urgency or anything.

To meet the needs of local communities.

Or to give slight cover to the fact that the amount of support is dropping, by claiming 'service efficiencies', and more appropriate delivery.

I understand that there has been a long standing acceptance by the government that both of these 'loans' have been abused by some in the past.
Maybe the government see it as tough love, and feel that forcing people into thinking of another way out of a hole they are in instead of running to the nearest JC with an application form is better in the long term

Because after all, everyone has easy access to sources of reputable credit at reasonable rates.
One can simply get a new 0% credit card, and borrow on that.
    Or sell a polo pony.

Wow im amazed its going to finish......

We had a CCG back in 2008, we had to have it to enable my hubby to come home from hospital, he couldnt have come out if the work wasnt done on the house, I really do dread to think whatever will happen to people from April onwards who needs the help..........People cant just find thousands to do adaptations to their homes....:mad:Just because you own your own home doesnt mean your bank account is full........

Your penalised for buying your own home and scrimping to pay for it, better off in a council house and you dont have to worry , because the council have to maintain their own stock.......

Whatever is becoming of the country, dam goverment is cutting every which way it can, but its always the ill, and poor people in society what get hurts the most.......

You only have to read the Daily Mail for example, to read about families that are 'ill, and poor' yet receive a benefit income far in excess of what they could ever earn by working.

The government are reacting to public pressure to cut back on welfare payments as they are seen by many to be extravagent.

So why aren't they stopping the payments of child benefit to the Polish living in Poland, the Somalians who just stepped off a plane and the millions of Romanians soon to come here will be for what reason exactly? Support for the needy doesn't need to stop. Immigration does!

And they'll differ because the local arrangements could be anything from the local council, to organisations and charities who've been invited to tender to run these arrangements.

All this will do is create more fodder for the loanshark, the provvi, and the likes of Wonga.

Wait until the horror stories are reported in the press.
