  • Sorry late reply. From what I been told this weeks about moss side is to stay away, so I think I'm going to do that. I really do not mind where I am as long as I feel safe, and able to walk into Manchester as until I can find work I am on a budget. Walking distance I would like is 20 to 40 mins or bus ride off 10 - 20 mins. Thanks again.

Moss side is nowhere near what it was, but if i had kids i would not want them living there.
You would never feel safe taking a walk at night into town.

I woke up on a bus at 3am there about 18 months ago, there was a time i wouldnt have made it out with my phone and health in tact - but i imagine if i did it 10 times there would be a couple of times i would regret it.

Have you tried a little further out? Fallowfield or Withington for example are both 1000 times safer and you have the nightlife on your door you could even sub let potentially to a student if you have spare room. Burnage maybe? I grew up there and the majority of people there are nice enough.

Hi . I live in Chorlton and know the area well. If you are worried about moss side , try whalley range or Hulme. Hulme is close to the city centre and underwent large scale regeneration about 10 years ago. Lots of new build flats and homes now , there is also quite a nice arty/ community feel about some parts

I lived just off whitworth park for 4 years and loved the location. Admittedly that's just on the border of moss side rather than central but as with any locality there's good bits and bad bits. I'd be lying if I said there weren't any 'characters' still living in the area but most of them are harmless and would only cause you grief if you gave them cause to. One thing to consider if you wanted to live there long term is noise. An abundance of students and a relatively young population mean that house parties are regular in certain streets. The police don't tend to get involved with noise pollution issues so don't move there if you have sensitive ears ! On the plus side there's a really good mix of nationalities and several of the local facilities ie parks / leisure centres have benefitted from significant investment. Best to go have a visit really.

Used to go swimming there a couple of years ago. Club members regularly had damage to parked cars and one had a couple of lads try to take his expensive bike off him, luckily he just jumped on and rode away.
  • I would go for Hulme or Whalley Range over Moss Side. Or try some parts of Salford, the bits just over the river near the city centre arent too bad and are within walking distance.
