I think we should lay off Buffyslay a bit guys. Albeit an exaggerated response I think it is one of those occasions where you feel an injustice and respond hastily. Breaking a nut with a sledgehammer as it were. We've all been there. The annoying office gimp sends you an email request of more work and you fire off a frosty response......Anyway I digress.

Obviously not a chance with the "conpensation". Generally those people who stamp their feet and shout get nowt. Far better to be reasonable in the first instance.

aww, thanks - someone else hated my post so much they posted the same reply twice!

Actually - I have been offered £50 in compensation and big apologies from the head office.

I felt ripped off as if the charging lead wasnt missing i would have had no idea that the box had been opened and the case removed, as i didnt know there should be one. Ok maybe i ranted a bit much, but you do expect to be able to come away from a 'big name' shop and be able to trust them to sell you a new complete product... you shouldn't have to expect them to lie (when you have already agreed to buy it) about it being the last one in the shop (whats the point?)

its a good job (for me) that i didnt listen to the replies on this thread, would you be happy if you were sold something that wasnt new from a shop that said it was??

and i now have a cheque for £50 from them - so, after a shakey start - i think that Dixons/Currys Electrical have come through as GOOD (a bit strange for the VENT board - but i am satisfied)

*(even if i did throw my toys out of the pram)

Glad you got a resolution, £50 is a great result. Definately not the usual MO from Dixons/Currys to offer compensation though. Of course no one would be happy to be mis-led. It is just a question of what people were thinking was a measured response to the incident in question. As I said, easier said than done when an injustice happens and it happens to you rather than some else!

I just wanted to say that I worked for Dixons Head Office for several years (or DGSi as it's now known), working in various admin roles. If you do email Sir John Collins' office (Chairman), his emails always get read and picked up by his PA, then passed on the relevant chain MD's PA to sort out. The OP also emailed John Clare (CEO) - he does read ALL his emails and always forwards them (or his PA) to the relevant MD to sort it out. I have to say the Customer "Contact" Centre (customer services) in Sheffield is a bit crap and they're a 'bit hit and miss'. You won't always get an acknowledgement to an email and sometimes your emails get "lost" in the system! If I had a serious complaint with one of the DSGi chains (Currys, Currys.digital, Dixons.co.uk, PC World, etc), I would email or write direct to the relevant MD at the Head Office in Hemel Hempstead (you can see the Management Structure on http://www.dsgiplc.com/layout.aspx?ID=1241b6bf-bbe5-423b-aa13-bbd9c75c4739&CatID=4b6e0e87-cb71-4d08-ad22-2480487dc2e9)
    Hope this helps, roxydogbert ;)
PS. this is my 1st post (...yikes!) :rolleyes2

I hope your really happy with the £50 that you got. Im sure that will go some way to help you get over what must have been such a traumatic experience that you went through. I honnestly dont know how you coped with such a serious complaint- people like you are such an insperation to us all, i mean send a completely OTT email and you get £50, easy money.
    (tongue still in cheek)
