Gardeners World

Have to agree about Monty's new greenhouse - puts me right off, how many of us have the a) space b) money to have such a structure in our gardens? Get real Monty!0

Monty's greenhouse is a thing isn't it! I was green with envy and a bit speechless when it was unveiled. His garden is clearly enormous but the outdoor rooms make it feel much more intimate which kind of cons me into a sense that it's like my garden. That greenhouse is a statement of wealth and gardening intent though. I'm saying £10,000 of building right there!

Which is why he is presenting the programme, of course. Much the same is true for most of the BBC's 'style over content' policy.0 -
Gardeners world is so boring unless you want to look at gardens the size of a park.:D Just so unpracticle to people with normal gardens who, want to grow a few veg.
Surely they need a large garden so they can grow a range of plants, to appeal to a wide audience. Would you really have them film in a 5m by 20m garden with a 3m by 2m greenhouse, and a bucket for a pond? And I bet he plants a range of varieties, and use a range of cultivation methods, so that he can learn, and advise people.Monty's new greenhouse must have cost a packet! Hopefully the BBC license fee payer wasn't invoiced...
It would be a relatively small expense. However, he is a professional gardener, and has put his life into his garden, so it is not so surprising he has a large plot, and big greenhouse.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
I was a bit :rotfl: at the thought of pricking out seedlings. I think my seed compost has almost defrosted and I might be able to sow some seeds this week - fingers crossed!!0

Not quite so, certainly not a lifetime. Just remember he was a failed internet jeweller not that many years ago. I will accept that he was a bit time kitchen gardener on one of the satellite channels with his wife cooking the produce in the kitchen, but nothing like the experience of Toby or Alan. However, he is a professional gardener, and has put his life into his garden, so it is not so surprising he has a large plot, and big greenhouse.0 -

Didn't Geoff (can't recall the surname-but very well known gardener) do a programme a few years ago where they had a peice of land and it was fenced off into "average" sized back gardens. So he could show different options for what you can do in a small space?

I didn't care for the 1st episode of Beechgrove. There's too many short snippets, all chopped up between the five presenters.0

Alibobsy, Geoff's collection (cottage gardens, Paradise gardens and Ornamental kitchen gardens) has some features on a gentlemans garden and artisan garden which was constructed at Barnsdale. It's a 3dvd box setmade for the BBC .
Think it costs around £10 and stuffed full of practical guidance. Lovely to watch and learn in this chilly Spring.0
