BT Broadband name change

I have my internet with BT and my primary email address is a btinternet.com one.
I've split from my husband and wish to go back to my maiden name but how will this affect my email address - can it be changed from joe.bloggs@btinternet.com to joe.smith@btinternet.com for example and if so what happens to all the emails sent to the previous name?
I've tried googling but all I can find are q&a's about changing the BT account from husband to wife or vice versa and not just about changing the surname on the account.

It wouldn't be possible to actually change the email address, however, there is an alternative solution.
What you could do is create a new email address joe.smith@btinternet.com and then redirect all mail heading to joe.bloggs@btinternet.com to the new address.
Presuming joe.bloggs is the primary account for the broadband account, login to your webmail, click your name in the top right hand corner and click Account Info. From here you can create a new email address.
To set up a redirection, in your webmail account, click Options > Mail Options at the top on the page. Click POP & Forwarding and then choose the "Forward BT Yahoo! Mail to another email address". Put the new account, joe.smith@btinternet.com in that box and click Save.
You can now use the new joe.smith account safe in the knowledge that all old mail going to joe.bloggs will be redirected.0 -
Thanks - I've tried setting up a sub account and each time it says congratulations your account is set up but it won't then let me log into it and it doesn't show on my account page where the other sub accounts I have (for the kids) are showing.
Also - all the other sub accounts are btinternet whereas it wants the new one (which it doesn't set up properly) to be btopenworld?!xxx Nikki xxx0 -
I use the Google Chrome web browser and I've just tried to carry out the process of creating a new sub account myself, however, I couldn't even get to the congratulations screen! I had to use Internet Explorer to get it to work properly.
The @btinternet.com and @btopenworld.com are interchangeable. I can login to all my BT email accounts with either @btinternet.com or @btopenworld.com.0 -
Have tried with chrome, ie and safari - all say the account is set up but then nothing!xxx Nikki xxx0

At this point I'd suggest contacting BT technical support to try and establish why the site doesn't seem to be letting you create a new alias. Sorry I can't be of further help!0

Or just open a Gmail account in the name you require. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
