credit card application error to go on credit history?

Looking for any advice on the issue detailed below
Yesterday I was looking for a new CC and liked the look of the Natwest card with 0% on balance transfer for 21 months (or something like that). I started their application process online and got through to a page which gave me an idea of the credit limit and interest I could expect on the card. I then (maybe stupidly) closed the application to consider it further and talk to my current CC company.
Today i went back on the Natwest site as I had decided to go with their card. i went through the application process again and i got declined before it even showed me the expected credit limit or Interest. i thought this was strange so i called then to ask why this had happened today when yesterday they were prepared to offer me the card. I was told that the original application (done yesterday) had gone through and i would be receiving a letter shortly and that the second application had been declined as i already had an application being processed.
I asked if this declined application would go on my credit record as i had assumed the original application had not been fully completed and was told that it would go on my record as a declined application.
I'm a bit annoyed about this as i believe my credit rating is good and don't want it to be affected by this error, it there anything i can do about this?
Thanks for any help in advance
Jim

If the second application did get to a credit check stage then there isn't alot you can do. But it's more than likely that when you applied for the second time it ruled you out before the credit check stage based purely on the fact you had an existing application logged on their system.
If worse comes to worse and you do have two recorded credit checks then it's not really much to worry about - any searches will become irrelevant in six months and will drop off completely after twelve months.0 -
If it was a genuine error you could raise a concern and ask for one of the searches to be removed.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

If you got to the point the first time around where you were told your limit and APR, then you had already submitted a full application. You're only given that information once you submit the application, and if you are subsequently accepted rather than referred - which it seems you were, given you were told your limit and APRCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Yep, that is correct. I applied for this card 2 days ago and the part that gives credit limit and interest is confirmation that you have been accepted. I suspect what confused the OP is the wording - it stated "We can offer you a credit limit of £nnnn" which to some could suggest it is only an offer and not an accepted for account message.
Btw, the guy in your signature really is a grand plonker.0 -

i wonder why then in my case they have stated they will let me know if 5 working days after they carried out the checks :think:Total Debt in June 2013: Barclaycard 0% until Nov 2014: £1550
Tesco CC: £1200 0% Until March 2014
HSBC CC: £384 25%APR - TARGET to make GREEN ASAP0 -

The offer will probably still be subject to identity and AML checks and sometimes they do just change their minds and decide an underwriter needs to look at it further0 -
