Oh, I must try this with the next PPI/injury claim company that calls :rotfl: Don't know if I could keep the charade up as long as these guys though. :D

Fair point - it MUST be ITV then. There is no other place these people can get this particular number
  • You would be surprised what info is actually out there

When I once worked for a small charity someone came trying to sell me data- which we refused- he had lists of phone numbers, who had contributed to charities, average monthly spend of the person etc, its scary what can be bought!

Even though I most definitely ticked 'do not share my details' on the ITV comps,

    Grrr

You have to leave the box unticked on most ITV ones.

Very difficult to find out where a lot of these companies get your information or even to get their actual company name, most just hang up as soon as you ask anything like that.

Our home number was added to a list around a year ago, it happed following a bereavement when we were having to change and update a lot of information. I have suspicions over which company it was but no way of knowing. Ever since we've been deluged with these PPI calls and other semi automated sales calls.

To some degree they don't even need to get your number from somewhere - a lot of these places dial random numbers and when they get an answer mark it as a live number. They can then either keep using it or sell it on as a live contact. If they are phoning you up and saying "Hi EABowden blah blah" then its a different matter but most of the time its just a random thing.
