the cost of moving.

After living in our house for the last 32 years we have decided now might be a good time to move.Ideally we would like a bungalow and looking around we would have to add about 50k to get what we want. Looking to cash in stocks and shares isa`s to fund this [in my view this could be good timing]. Anyway what I hadn`t appreciated was the total cost of moving. After all fees including stamp duty [looking to buy in the region of 300k] we have worked out a total moving cost of 18-19k. Seems like a lot to me but have checked figures with various estate agents and seems to be about right. Anyone else get a shock on moving costs or perhaps I am behind the times.

Stamp duty you can't do anything about and to an extend conveyancing but agent fees and removal costs can be trimmed down by using an online estate agent or hiring a van yourself.0

This seems about right! I'm currently in the process, sadly stamps duty is the horrendous main cost, but that's something we can't do anything about!0

Unless you work as a labourer, as a 50-something you will very much regret skimping on a "professional" move!

If you are buying for £300k, stamp duty is going to be £9k.
So what's the other £9k for?
EA fees - £? selling price dependent
Sols - £2,200 inc VAT + disbursements (may be less)
Val (Survey) - £430 (£655 with homebuyer's)
Removal - £750 (we moved a 3 bed semi 50 miles)
Mortgage - £? port current product and go for fee-free extra?I am a mortgage broker. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. We've previously paid between £2000 and £4000 for removals when moving 150 - 200 miles from 5 and 6 bed houses.........but then we do have an abnormal amount of stuffMortgage-free for fourteen years!
Over £40,000 mis-sold PPI reclaimed0 -

Are they the only options?
Other agents in the area, or other marketing options, perhaps online?
I'd be looking to save on those fees. Perhaps offering 1% + VAT with a quick sale bonus? Some will turn you down, but I bet you fond some who take you up on it...I am a mortgage broker. haggle on the agents fees...my friend knew her house would sell super quick so demanded that they geve her a rate of 1% inclusive of VAT...it sold in 2 days and the agent basically made the cash for doing very little indeed!!!0
