Some sorta tagging method - Nope

    Dont get it

I'll continue to ignore # sign until i get it

There's not really much to get, the link someone gave explains it in it's entirety. It basically turns any word into 'more' of a keyword. People search for words on twitter of something they want to read about so if someone searched for 'responsive web design' for example and you had tweeted something and written #responsive web design, your tweet would come up in the results. If you hammered the hash tags on every one of your posts and post often, it is not too difficult to end up in the results each time (ok, not each time but near enough) which will no doubt result in more followers. The more people who search for your # tag, the more likely it can trend.

It's like any social media platform, on the face of it it looks boring and pointless. From a general public, personal point of view it kind of is boring and pointless but from a business point of view it can be highly effective.

If someone has added a hashtag to a word or joined up phrase such as #wassatabout it means the twitter reader can click on the hash tagged word and read other peoples tweets who have also hash tagged the same word.

During say the arab spring it would allow you to instantly look up relevant tweets
