  • Had a thought, if Tesco uses MSM to compare prices now, does that mean that they have left themselves open to the same comparison glitches as Asda? IE multibuys may not compare correctly if they aren't listed right on MSM?

Well I tried and got as far as the page with the upload button you click and it just ont click for me so I cant even test the speed, page just wont open.

OH has a page from the control panel called View your basic network info and its showing 4 bars and we are running at 54mbph but it always shows that however fast or slow the system

Ipad does not seem too bad this morning and it works as i move from room to room. We have 2 main computers running, one old and one brand new and shiney and that sht eone I am working on.

    2 things
    - how do we know if we need a new Sky router - we still have the orignal one.
    - also we had new phone wires put in along our lane last week, lost internet altogether one morning. Should the new wires make things run faster not slower?

Friday got progressively worse and worse. Sunday was OK, Monday was back to normal running, today, getting worse and worse again.
I dont see that it does a download speed test then an upload one for me once I set it away is that the same.
54mb per hour that is unbelievably slow mine was doing 35mb per second
Time to ring sky and not be fobbed off.
They will be able to run tests from their end, tell them its work related type of thing and you need it and will have no option but to move broadband suppliers if they do not sort it quickly ;)
I know sky in my area the max is 2mb speed thats why I can not leave virgin and they know it they give me 50mb or its max is supposed to be which I am sure it is :T

can i ask, what is a good speed and a bad speed?

so it says 1.22 on the clock thing in the middle and I then did it again, signal must have been better and its back up to 2.20.

    The upload speed is 0.51mbp

So that must be part of the problem, the signal fluctuating so much

Might be worth giving this a go?

    http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/troubleshooter/ping.html

I'm with Virgin and I've been plagued with problems for years with a non continuous connection.
I ended up with screenshots of my connection dropping out that I felt like using to hit the person on the phone over the head with which proved my connection had a fault.

I find the ping command a god send when I'm having a rubbish day with my connection as it shows me how much my signals dropping out (after you've added the webpage to it if you add a space and -t it runs continuosly rather than just for 4 pings).

Hope that helps (and makes sense) :)

thanks for this, thats what OH said we need to do, threaten to leave.
It says on that website that we have f+ national - so we are in the bottom 19% - sheep farms 100 miles from no where run faster than us. Global we are d. It also says global average is 13.07 mbs.

We are on an exchange which is miles away, as far away as its possible, everywhere around us is connected to the local town.

It was running excellent with the new computer we have had for only 3 months and then at the end of last week it suddenly went bad, worse than ever. We also had new phone wires last week and it worries me that they have somethign to do with it.
