  • Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that for the time being I have been onto the step change website and filled out one of the debt remedy things.
It enabled me to download a debt remedy pack with some things which I can do now.
I will be ringing them on Friday morning whilst the children are at school and my husband is home so that I can have a good long chat and get some proper advice.
  • That's good news. You sound a bit less frazzled today. I hope that taking control and getting some advice helps you to feel better about things.
I'm a Money and Debt Adviser for a homelessness and housing charity in Scotland. If you have any questions about debt management and debt relief under Scots Law, just ask.
The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow.
  • I was wondering if anyone could perhaps have a look over my SOA, and come up with a plan/time frame for me to save the fees?
Baring in mind I have 3 children, 2 of which have packed lunches.
Any help along these lines would be good.

NB: I pay £80 per week to brighthouse and roughly £60 per month to sky. I don't know if that's any help?

Can you get out of your mobile phone contract? My mobile phone bill is £7.50 per month from Tesco monthly. That's not for an Iphone though.

  • Hi & well done for posting - you are in the right place. Going Bankrupt really is the last and most extreme option and in your case seems to be the only way to go. If you are not able to raise the BR fees from friends/family I would suggest stopping paying your creditors and save the usual monthly payments. Be prepaired for calls/letters etc but as you are going BR you have nothing to lose.

Your HP creditor may try send a bailiff in to sieze goods BUT DO NOT LET THEM IN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - not even to "use the toilet". Once they have entry they can come back whenever they like - legally. They will threaten court action but as you are going BR this is irrelavant. A note on bailiffs etc - they are not allowed to take anything they want - for example beds and sofas etc are exempt so do not worry on that account. Once you file for BR then it is up to the courts to settle the issue anyway.

By doing this you will have the BR fee in 2 months - so it is unlikely any creditor will come after you before you file anyway as it is such a short time frame.

NEVER default rent/mtge or council tax.

Use Stepchange or similar to help you through the BR process
