Beware Existing Tiscali Broadband Customers

Options
I have had Tiscali Broadband at home for about a year now and when I started I was paying about £29 per month for 512 (10 times faster). A few months back I was automatically told by Tiscali that my monthly premium was being reduced because of a change to their pricing structure. Great!

News issued by the BBC yesterday prompted me to contact Tiscali and ask why I was paying so much compared to ISPs such as UK Online who were now charging £9.99 per month. I then received an email directing me to my account area where I could in fact reduce my monthly premium to £15.99 for the same service manually. As you'd expect I've now thanked them for their help and asked for details on when and how I would have been notified of this reduction. I will of course be looking for a refund.

Please note that as Tiscali Broadband customer you must keep an eye on your monthly premium to make sure you're not paying more than you should. Unfortunately Tiscali are quite frequent with their newsletters which I feel are board line examples of spam and are easy to delete without reading them. If this is how they have informed their clients of any pricing changes and I’ve missed it then there may be more of you out there than just like me paying more than we need to.

I hope this helps someone save some cash.

Unfortunately for you, this isn't the end of it. Whereas most ISPs support migrations and will give you a MAC number. Tiscali doesn't do this. Instead of just having your broadband down for a few minutes while you are switched over to a new supplier. You will have to cancel from Tiscali, go without BB.
Then signup for a new supplier.

No probs but a funny thing. I've heard this before when I installed my wireless Router that Tiscali can be arkward.

It's not worth changing just yet and to be honest it's not worth the agro of resetting everything again to a new ISP but so long as other customers note this pricing change then I'll be happy enough.

    Cheers Friend.

I had read somewhere that Tiscali are going to invest in LLU (£60M)by the year 2007. Starting with activating 27 exchanges across the country (densly populated areas with high BB sign-up). It will be interesting to see how this turns out and what prices they will charge.

Never understood the whole Tiscali pricing thing.
    £15.99 for 512Kb and 30GB cap
    £15.99 for 1Mb and 2GB cap.
Or for really heavy users 2Mb with 15GB cap.
Thier web site shows the 512Kb package for regular to heavy users yet thier 2Mb package is supposed to be just for heavy users. Very confusing.

I am not a fan of Tiscali anyway. As I have said in almost all my posts here they are the worst for trying to leave.

thanks - Iread this - went straight on to the tiscali site and discovered I have been paying £15.99 a month for 256k (which has only recently doubled in speed from what it was originally when I signed up), have just upgraded to 512k for 0p! (still £15.99 a month), the site says my speed will change within 48 hours.

I have not had any other problems with tiscali so far, have been with them for just over 2 years. But then I have not tried to change broadband providers yet! Many thanks for your advice. :T

    Hi Scooter,

Tiscali offer 2 x 512 options, one capped, one not capped.

I stuck with the Uncapped but it's a personal choice.

Thanks Housenet. I'd had the email saying it was being upgraded but I presumed it would be automatic, just checked my account and I was still on the 3 times faster one! Upgraded now- hopefully it will work!

Hi just thought I'd let tiscali customers know I recently read webuser magazine and they say tiscali have lifted the caps on 1mb and 2mb broadband and are looking into providing mac numbers by sep 05.

I just upgraded from 512mb to 1mb for the same price of £15.99 and it is uncapped!

so you may possibly be able to upgrade for free on tiscali basically...

    Latest:
£14.99 for 2Mb, phoned Tiscali a week ago and still waiting for them to change my account. Tried to do it online but there was a system error hence the call to their C/S team. Still nothing to say there's a better deal on offer.

Was on £14.99 for 512, now down to £12.99 for 1 MB uncapped. Couldn't get 2MB on my line but again, I had to chase them for the better deal. Nothing was received to say that I could save money and have a higher bandwith.
