I've done interconnecting rooms, with young teenage children, in several countries. I've always had to organise it directly with the hotel. For the Accor group --- Ibis, Mercure, etc --- not even their own website does it, you still have to talk directly to the hotel even if you're booking without using an agency. I've also done "room a couple of doors down the corridor". But although I'm normally pretty casual and non-paranoid about safety, I would be very reluctant to have them more than a room or two away, because I've been in hotel fire evacuations (mercifully, false alarms).

Some people seem overly paranoid - my kids have been on school trips at age 12 where they shared rooms, 3 of them to a room, nobody cared how far away in the hotel the teachers' rooms were

Hotels will usually have a phone where you can phone free between rooms, also they might have interconnecting rooms, or if not at least try to put you together. But I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it, provided all the kids are happy with the arrangement. Worst case - have an adult in each room, but doubt anyone would like that arrangement.

Thanks for that I will look into villa's and interconnecting rooms and I will phone some of the hotels I'm looking at, I'm looking at all inclusive because I have a budget in mind, this being 2k for all of us for a week, I know self catering is £500 cheaper and we probably wouldn't spend that If I made alot of the meals myself, but I cook for a living and would quite like a week of doing nothing, especially not having to wash pots :-)

I like the baby monitor idea, and we have stopped in a hotel where there was a fire, thankfully only a small fire, we had interconnecting rooms and the kids had legged it before we even got out of bed!!

Even if you eat out most nights, perhaps just making butties for lunch and cereals for breakfast, it should be under £500. Though perhaps not much under.

:rotfl:yes, it's the adults who are more likely to sleep though a fire alarm, particularly if they've had a sangria or 2.

I wouldn't. Not because I'm paranoid for their safety, I just don't think it's fair in the 14yo to leave her in charge of the younger two every night.

At a push, if there were no other options, I would have the 11 and 14yo together and the 7yo with parents.

If I were you phone the hotel and request rooms next to each other - ask if its possible.

If you are prepared to have everyone in one room (appreciate you might not be) Italy is a great country for piling in as many beds as possible into one room. Sometimes the kids beds are in the room but around the corner behind a wall.

the other alternative is not to book a hotel but to book a mobile home or an apartment.

What if the apartments are not together? What if there was some sort of drama - bad dream, cockroach in the room, burglary? Not worth it.

I'd opt for a cheaper holiday (caravan, camping) or find one where we would all be in the same building/unit or a guarantee of interconnecting rooms in a hotel or a suite with separate living arrangements.

We had a 2 bed apartment and i still slept apart from my husband for the week lol I slept in with the girls and my husband slept with my boy, my mind works on overdrive and i feared about the kids sleeping alone!

I wouldn't risk it, but thats because i always see the worst in things rather than other outcomes. God help my girls when they are old enough to be able to go out on their tod!

Id look at something like James Villas where you can get a 2/3 bed place. Or another villa site.
