wwyd? kids in a seperate apartment?

I'm struggling to find a holiday on a certain week, for myself my partner and my 3 girls, their ages 14, 11 and 7. Ideally I want a 2 bed apartment, or 1 bed at a squeeze, but as usual I've left it too late and haven't much choice.

It works out cheaper to book 2 seperate apartments, one for me and my partner and one for the girls, as they are not his children it wouldn't be possible for 1 adult in each room, which of course would be the sensible option.

My children are sensible, I'll make sure they have a mobile that works, my eldest daughter often babysits, when I'm at work or out, so its nothing new for them. Do hotels generally put two rooms on one booking near each other?

So what would you do?

I'd pay a bit more and have the children in the same apartment. Peace of mind is priceless, as is your childrens' safety.

I wouldn't rule it out if you trust your children and I can't see why, with advanced notice,the accommodation can't be configured to make sure you have rooms next to each other.

14 is plenty old enough for your oldest daughter to be in charge of the other three overnight.

These sort of arrangements happen all the time.

Invest in a cheap baby listening device for peace of mind.

What about a hotel with inter connectiong rooms?

I wouldn't do it personally as you won't get a guarantee that they will be next door. Even if they were, for me it wouldn't be near enough to be sure of their safety and sleep soundly. I would go interconnecting with the door left ajar slightly.

Don't understand this...if you're booking 2 apartments, then you can configure the people inside them however you want. The hotel management aren't going to check who is sleeping in each bed.

You can request adjoining rooms and the hotel will always do their best to accommodate (no pun intended), but it's always a chance. I tend to email the hotel when I've booked and make sure they've got the requirements as they don't always take note or receive instructions from the travel agent.

I wouldn't risk it and I'm probably one of the most relaxed parents ever.

What if the apartments are not together? What if there was some sort of drama - bad dream, cockroach in the room, burglary? Not worth it.

I'd opt for a cheaper holiday (caravan, camping) or find one where we would all be in the same building/unit or a guarantee of interconnecting rooms in a hotel or a suite with separate living arrangements.
