Is it really worth buying detached over semi detached?

Even non-detached houses have rooms where you never hear any noise. A lot depends on the layout of the house and rooms etc. I'm not sure whether it's worth the extra cost of buying detached because you get much less value for money - room size is much less, which is going to be an issue when you have children etc. If you are retired or a childless couple then buying detached makes more sense.
Too many generalisations here, it does depend on your local housing stock, how they are priced etc.
You can minimise any potential direct "impact" noise issues with careful layout yes, but you can't erradicate it. Not something you have to worry about almost universally with detached
Saying all that two identical house in layout and size, the detached will always be worth more. So not less value for money, Just more front loading of the lifetime cost, and in many cases more lifestyle value to the owner whoch is more important when looking at your home0 -
I used to live in a 1930's traditional semi. It was fine to start with & then the neighbours decided to remove their chimney breast. Once they had done this you could hear conversations, kids crying etc.
It drove me mad so decided to move & get a detached house. Best thing I ever did & worth every penny.0
