Small Business, Housing Association & PO Box

Hi, a very nice poster in the Benefits forum named BigAunty advised me to ask for help in this forum so I am!
I am starting up an electrician company, the housing association I live strictly forbids a business being run from there properties.
I will do no work in the house I live, and supplies will not be stored there instead will pick up from wholesalers
On the housing benefit paperwork, i remember if you were self employed you have to give the business address, well obviously that's where i live even though threes no business activity here (bar book keeping).
I don't wanna not tell the Housing Association, then they find out via the housing benefit and I get in trouble.
I was advised to maybe register a registered business forwarding address, or PO box number; are these methods suitable; if so does HMRC have any issue with a business being registered with one of the aforementioned address types?

Where are you going to run the business from then?
Can't you use that address?0 -
TBH I don't think there will be a problem . It's not like you will be running a Garage off your drive.I think thats what the HA is against ,a business where work is completed on site.
As long as your customers are not visiting your business address which will be your home address and nothing is being stored there,I think you will be OK as there is no risk of an insurance claim IYSWIM
Just ask them and good luck0 -

I thought the same thing. I've got to be honest. But I was advised in another post they may not let me as it is a business registered to the house address.0 -
Danny, if you are only using the address as an office , ie for post, day to day running using your computer and phone , will not have a number of sign written vehicles parked there over night ,there really should not be a problem.
If you have customers visiting at this address or are doing work on behalf of the business at your address there is a major problem as you will not be insured0 -

You'll need to explain that one a little more to me, I'm afraid.Danny_Sorrell wrote: »I am starting up an electrician company, the housing association I live strictly forbids a business being run from there properties.

I will do no work in the house I live, and supplies will not be stored there instead will pick up from wholesalers ..... quote from Danny

what needs explaining?
In answer to my question "Where are you going to run the business from then?" Danny replied "Where I live."
Although earlier he posted "I am starting up an electrician company, the housing association I live strictly forbids a business being run from there properties."
That is what I would like explaining further by the OP

OK .. Danny is an electrician who wants to be self employed. Dannys customers will want him to visit their homes to work.
Dannys business address will be his HA home address but Danny will be working on site , not at home when meeting the requirements placed by customers. His customers should not be visiting him and he should not be storing materials at his home address.0 -

As that man/woman says. I don't think there's much to be confused about. I own no other property only the house I live. Which I rent from a HA.0
