Thanks everyone for your help. I am aware that I have made a mistake, and realise how annoying it is to the seller. I have been in his position before and have always just accepted it as part and parcel with ebay and always sold to a second chance offer. I will be more careful in the future!
and no, I have had no invoices from ebay for this item.0

I'm suprised that this isn't showing up the in the OP's bought items if the offer was accepted?0

I know the offer was official, my question was if the seller actually accepted the offer through Ebay? That still isn't clear to me.
Yes - I think this is how it worked. The seller accepted the offer through ebay. It then went straight in to my purchase history, and i received no notifications, emails or invoices to say it had been accepted. So I thought it had sold.0

What does it say on the item page?
Find the original item page while you are logged in from the Ebay account you made the offer on. If it says you are the winning bidder then we can take it from there.
If all you did is make an offer and it was never accepted and 48 hours have elapsed, nothing much can happen, other than the seller shouting and making an idiot of himself.
So far nothing is really clear as to what has happened..0

Offer was accepted and shows in OPs purchase history. Seller never got roud to sending an invoice- and as per another recent thread it appears some never do.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Why not just buy the car??? Just cos the guys a !!!!! doesn't mean you won't get a bargain, my newsagents a bit of a plum but I still use him. You put in your offer so were happy with the price, no doubt you'll inspect the car before purchase and take someone with you.
Always annoying when people look for loopholes to get out of their bids so can hardly blame him for chancing his arm with the court threat.0

Buy a car from a bloke who says he wants £400 to make it go away? I bet he signs the V5 Arthur Daley as well
