Help with making a wedding present

  • I made one of those for Mothering Sunday last year (and my ma was thrilled :D) in an Ikea box frame. I wedged my buttons in closer and overlapped them a little, filling in the gaps with teeeeeny beads. I just used UHU craft glue, because that was what I had, and it held up just fine. I did a heart shape and squiggled glue all over it, then filled in with buttons adding more glue as I needed it.

Have fun, and I bet the happy couple will love it!

http://pinterest.com/ is great for advise and ideas like this one. Sorry I can't do a search for you without logging in. I would guess glue gun would be the way forward.

People pay how much? for one of those??
    Quick, where's my button box!!!

I was thinking the same thing!!!
  • What a nice idea, I would love to receive one of those. I would use a hot glue gun. I have been using one to do buckles on my wedding invitations and it'w working a treat!

Thanks so much for all the replies. I ended up buying a pinflair glue as recommended and it was fab although I did put a bit too much on the back of some of the buttons. The card and buttons were free and I bought a shabby chic box frame from eBay.
    Here's the final result!:

it's gorgeous Pumpkin, I'm sure they were thrilled with it.

For anyone attempting something similar, Sainsbury's (instore) have got white box frames on clearance for about £3.50 & packs of 3 x red ordinary photo frames for £2.50 (think they take an 8x6 photo size)

I'm doing something similar but it's a map of [STRIKE] Europe [/STRIKE] the British Isles (just been informed!) for my son
  • Aww that's lovely, well done! x
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

That is lovely. Well done :T
I made a paper butterfly one for a friend's wedding many many years ago and they loved it. My niece is getting married in August so I am thinking of doing one of the button ones for her or maybe a little heart shaped favour with a loop of ribbon and buttons sewn all over, I saw some pearl buttons in the charity shop last week :D
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I would recommend the Pinflair glue gel too. PVA (white school-type glue) is too 'wet', if you are using thin card. A word about that hun, thin card will take paper embellishments, but if using real buttons then you do need thick card, 280 to 300 gsm or it wont take the weight of the buttons. modern printers will still print ok on this weight card.
don't forget that glue gel isn't instant set - it needs at least twenty minutes to 'grab' the item and is normally 12 hours before fully 'set' - but then its there for life!
a hot glue gun is a good alternative, though be sparing with the glue.

Lovely idea, and you've done a great job! This has inspired me to try something similar for a friend's wedding in the summer, I wonder if I can create shapes of some landmarks (bride and groom originally from opposite ends of the country)... hmm, off to search for ideas!!
