American Airlines flight cancellation help

Hi,
First post here. I'm attempting to claim compensation for an American airline flight that I was on in jun 08 that was cancelled last minute. The problem I am having is that as it was so long ago I no longer have the booking confirmation or ticket. Are these essential or could I just provide the flight numbers.
Also if the booking number is essential can anyone give advice on how I may find it. I have tried Expedia, who I booked with, but they delete all info 6 months after the flight.
Cheers

where was the flight from at to?
what was the reason given for the cancellation?0 -
The flight was from London Stanstead to New York JFK. The flight was cancelled as there was only one flight a day from stanstead and the plane didnt land at stanstead the night before. We were offered another flight from Heathrow, which we took. We had to make our own way there plus it was over 8 hours after our departure time0

there is a thread here for US airlines (although quiet) First step would be to write to American Airlines, you should be entitled to reimbursement of the travel to Heathrow (they will probably ask for receipt) and compensation

Thanks for the fast response. I have read that other link and it doesnt really have much info in it. Do you think I will be able to claim the full 600 euros for the cancellation and also where can I find the booking reference if it is required. I don't have my train ticket anymore unfortunately so wont be able to claim down that route0

Can anyone advise whether or not having the original booking reference/ticket is essential to my claim and if so how I can go about finding it?0

Some form of evidence of purchasing 'the service' will normally be required.
That doesn't include boarding cards and nonsense like that.0 -
Hi on the online claim form on American Airlines website you need to provide the date of your flight ,flight number and most important your original flight booking locator number. You can not complete the claim form without it. Quickest way to get a response from AA as to if they can help you is post the question on the American Airlines Facebook page they reply quickly but be prepared for abuse from 2 trolls on there as they get loads of delays and cancellations in the USA and do not get compensation.
We received £481 each last week for a 24 hr delay in November but we had all the details they required . Good luck0
