Urgent - advise re hotel pool closure

Comments

  • Please name the hotel, as then others who have travelled there recently, may be able to advise you of a comparable hotel that you may have overlooked.

I recently got back from Makadi Bay nr Hurghada and I would recommend the Makadi Bay Hotels.

Which hotel is it, does it really only have 1 pool, it doesn't sound very luxurious, is that why all the others would cost a lot more to change to. Hotels in Egypt normally have lots of pools as generally the holidays are hotel based. If there is only one pool and its closed all of the holiday i would definitely be pushing for a change free of charge.

It only has one main pool yes. There is an indoor pool - obviously not planning on sunbathing around that :-)

There is one other small pool, which is nothing like the size of the main pool. Clearly all guests will be fighting for a spot around this small pool.

This means we won't be able to relax and lie in, we'd have to rush up early every morning.

It means it won't be quiet and relaxing, it'll be a full crowded area, not what we want at all.

Plus the obvious point that the pool itself is small, so unfortunately not at all a replacement for the large free form lovely pool that we were going to spend all our time in :-(

Sure, it's the Palm Royale Abu Soma, Hurghada.

There are definitely no others, we asked Thomas Cook, and they have no other 5* hotels available at all in Hurghada unfortunately.

Not ideal but could you downgrade to a 4* hotel that has lots of pools and should be better than a 5* without.

We could, but we only ever go 5* and only ones with top end Tripadvisor reviews at that. I really wouldn't want to downgrade, we'd prefer to cancel and do something else at another time than do that.

But again we can't seem to cancel either.
  • Do you know if they will transfer you to a totally different holiday? i.e. not Egypt?

Or if they will only do Egypt (and Hurghada) if you can list the hotels they will transfer you to, perhaps others on here can let you know if they are nice or not.

I hope that you get sorted, I agree that the holiday will be a let down, having looked at the hotel and the pictures of the pool, it is massive and will probably result in the beach being crowded also.

    No they won't :o

To be honest we'd be open to a different location/country, the important thing to us on this particular holiday is the standard of hotel and the facilities - including pool.

So we'd be more than happy to change location, but Thomas Cook won't even consider letting us move from Hurghada to Sharm (which is one option we found for ourselves), let alone to a new country.
  • I've used Holiday Travel Watch in the past for advice and found them very knowledgeable . They'll be able to advise you of your rights. I don't think Thomas Cook will allow you to choose a different holiday because the flights are booked , but you should be offered a list of alternative hotels .

Thanks Olive Oyl, I will look on that link now.

The problem is that there ARE no other hotels available, that is what Thomas Cook have told us.

Yes I understand , this is why I think you need the advice .

Give them a try boots_Babe they'll call you back if you say it's urgent . I certainly wouldn't go if there is no pool .

I had a similar situation in Turkey and it ruined my holiday .

Good Luck . Let us know how you get on . :)
