I have tried to get my pac code from O2 but they are asking me to write in to get it - Is this normal?

Ask them to send it by text or email, if not then you will have to post off the request, its stupid but they will just be trying to get you to stay on as a customer so the hassle of posting it might make make you stay with them.

You need to write to them to cancel your contract, (as per T & C's) However, (as long as you're out of contract) if you tell them you want to go onto O2 payg they will text you a pac and also post it to you within 48hours or so, then you just give the pac to your new provider.:D
