taxing car whilst away

Options
Hello
can anyone tell me what documents you need to tax your car at a post office?
I have my insurance, my vehicle tax reminder driving licence but not my log book.
Can I tax in person at the local post office whilst away on holiday but the car is with me.
Thank you

I would have thought you could do it at any post office. I think you can only do it at a main PO, as some of the smaller local ones don't do it.

Tax reminder, current insurance certificate (or cover note), MOT certificate (if required) and payment is all that is required to tax at any PO which issues tax discs.

Alternatively you can apply up to 5 days prior to your current one expiring so (as I pointed out in the other thread) if your tax runs out at the end of this month, you can re-tax it today and display the new disc from midnight on Thursday.
    PLEASE NOTE

You can actually apply in person or online from the 6th of the month prior to the month the tax is due.

Yeah well what ever. But in any event, I don't see the OPs problem... he certainly can tax it before he goes on holiday or at a main post office while he is away.

i read it that he's already away and has everything bar the V5, and he was checking if he can tax it without the V5

In addition to my earlier posts, I think it's been answered every way it can be.

    Not "what ever" at all.

This is the correct advice on how soon you can apply for a renewal of your tax:
You can actually apply in person or online from the 6th of the month prior to the month the tax is due.

Your post #3 gives incorrect advice. We have more than 3 weeks prior to expiry to renew the disc!

It's not my tax that needs re-newing. If the OPs tax runs out at the end of Feb, not much point telling him he can re-new 3 weeks in advance is it?

Just do it online, it check the insurance and MOT database automatically. You just need your reminder letter.

As long as you've ordered your tax disc before your current one expires, you're covered for up to 5 days. Obviously if you're going to be away for a week or more, you'll have to go to a post office.
