Options
Hrllo.
I have a predicament.
My car tax runs out whilst away on holiday. I can renew on line so no difficulty thete but I wond be able to display the disc until after I get back.
I was thinking of putting the reference disc order number alongside my expired disc.
Any ideas if this will be ok in.order for me not to.get a fine.
Thanks..dave

Apart from the above, I would of thought (assuming your tax expires at the end of this month) that you could obtain a new tax disc today and then display it on Friday.

    As above.
Technically you should display both, so that you are always showing a valid tax disc. Would have to be a real jobsworth to give you a ticket if you had just the new one though and it wasn't yet active.

Why do you need to display both. Who actually does that ?

Why can't you just put the new one in on the first day of the month ?

Presumably the OP is on holiday somewhere without the car, either in the UK or abroad.

The first day of the month starts at midnight.

It's known that a car parked on the road got a failure to display ticket before the owner went out to swap over discs.

There are jobsworths all around us.

Since 1 September 2008, you can legally drive or keep your vehicle on the road up to five days from the end of the month without displaying a valid tax disc provided you have made your application online or by telephone before your current vehicle tax expires.

    It's still possible you'd get a ticket.
