Hi Forum team ,

reading more and more threads in MSE where new posters are being bullied by older members , the usual culprits , who in effect " gang up " against the OP , turn the thread around to the point where the original question is lost amongst the bickering and mutual thanks .

Some examples here .

and here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4465465

I know I've brought this subject to your attention before, my question is why do you allow this to continue ?

MSE has grown significantly since I joined , and quite honestly if I wanted to ask a benefit related question I would post under an AE as many do .

If I report the posts then it would seem vindictive .

I would appreciate your thoughts on this please ,

Thank you .

If I wanted to ask a benefit related question I probably wouldn't even bother to post it here.

It's probably not unique to that subject area either. I've seen threads elsewhere where a new person asks a question, and some of the answers are really too aggressive and embarrassing to read. Then of course the original poster reads the answers, is quite possibly upset, and doesn't answer any of the loaded rhetorical questions.

This leads the smart-a's to observe the person couldn't be bothered to come back and add more explanatory comments to the rather implausible things they said so far, and smugly congratulate themselves having seen off yet another troll.
  • benefits questions are best answered by friendly places such as benefits and work where you won't get trolled, bashed etc.
MSE should be the LAST place you go too and only AFTER you have been to the other places.
The Anti-Benefits Clique/Benefits bashers stalk all those on benefits for information for comment etc. You cannot come on here as a newbie and get the help you really need.
All this is a trillion miles away from MSE being marvellously helpful when it is.

  • Those on benefits on this Forum who still exist need to find ways to fight back as I am trying to do.
Given the nasty government policies towards anyone on benefits whether disabled or not it is about time there was a real fight back here that makes the MSE benefit bashers start running.

    Hi mandi

I'm quite amazed I'm saying this but we have 31 million posts on the forum now!

It's a huge number, one we're really proud of as the majority are a fantastic MoneySaving resource.

But the point you've raised is a good one - it emphasises that with so many posts on the forum unfortunately if you don't report posts then we just don't know about them.

Also, remember, when reporting you're emailing the Forum Team. No forum users see your reports so feeling "vindictive" isn't an issue.

Plus, this may sound obvious to some, but in case there's confusion - you have to click the report button as that gives us the link to the actual post you're reporting and means we can investigate quicker.

    Just let us know :)
Could you do with a Money Makeover?
