'Be' broadband - who uses them and do you like them? (Thanks!)

Just wondering if anyone is with 'Be' broadband?
What do you think of their service, speed of connection and service, reliability etc?

Their website link: https://www.bethere.co.uk/

I am thinking of trying their 'Be unlimited' service ( https://www.bethere.co.uk/homebroadband.do ) and wish to network 3 computers in the house (wired not wireless connections):

£24 monthly
Up to 24 meg download speed
Unlimited usage

I have tried searching this forum for users' opinions but it is very difficult as 'Be' is also a general word and so produces hundreds of irrelevant posts!

I would be extremely grateful to hear from anyone who uses Be broadband and tells me what they think of them. (I have been with AOL for about 8 years and think it's time for a change, regardless of any incentives to stay they may offer.)

Alternative suggestions also welcome, though Be seem to be the cheapest and best for what they offer.

Thank you very much in advance. Kind regards to you all. :)

Be vs AOL comparison result on thinkbroadband.com website shows Be to be superior:

Am on BE, for an ISP I think they are great. Initially when they did enter the Broadband market there were some issues, but now, everything is good. I didn't have a single hitch setting up my connection when I ordered with them. Went straight from my 2Mbps connection to a 4Mbps, could have been 12Mbps but there's interference in my copper wiring. Talked to the support, and they managed to sync it upto 7Mbps which was not so bad.

Their tech-support lines do take a while to get through, but they have a very active support forum. Just post your questions or queries, and tech-admins or very helpful forum users assist in no time at all.

IMHO, I loved them the minute I moved from Namesco.

Thanks for your reply. Just a few questions if I may (to you and anyone else who uses Be broadband):

    1. How long did it take for Be to connect you after you supplied them with your MAC code? Was there much 'down time' (i.e. period of no connection during the transfer)?

    2. Did you have to phone their tech-support lines much? If so, may I ask why? Any particular problems? Or just relating to the interference in your copper wiring and related issues? Any other ongoing problems? I am not paranoid, but it's a minimum 12 month contract!

(You said it takes a while to get through, but even though I have been with AOL for 8 years, I have hardly ever needed to phone them. They have been far from problem-free, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, so I do try to avoid phoning AOL as much as possible! However the connection has been generally okay, which is the main thing I suppose.)

Well, once you have placed the order with them, they inform you of the progress within your account, and send out the BeBox 4 days before your connection is to go live. If you have obtained a MAC from AOL, and use this to order with Be, there won't be any downtime. I had no downtime, just connect your BeBox to the phone socket the day your activation is due. Mine was activated early morning at about 10ish.

Nope, I just had to call tech-support up once. The BeBox has all settings needed for connection, and you don't have to set up much apart from opening up ports for apps like utorrent and limewire. Just called them once regarding the speed and they sorted it out by adjusting some settings at their end. No other ongoing problems really.

Its not a 12 month contract btw, you just need to inform them 3 months in advance of your intention to disconnect.

Just in case you do have problems, don't worry about the call wait. It will probably be the only call you will ever need to make. I haven't called them a second time.

If you do have any problems during activation, Be provide a dial-up account which you can use to post to their forums or surf the net while they sort the a/c out.

Thanks so much for your reply and sorry to bother you again! Quick questions: Did you transfer from another ISP and if so, how many days did the process take? Ideally I wish to be connected to Be broadband by 18 May (or even before then, as my AOL monthly fee is charged on the 19th of every month).

Is the BeBox any good? I wish to connect 3 computers in the house using a wired network. Will the BeBox suffice for this? I am prepared to buy a separate ADSL router if necessary.

Absolutely correct according to the website. Thanks for informing me of this!
  • Yes, I did transfer from Namesco. Well, if you placed the order today/tomorrow, I am sure you would be connected by next Wed/Thur. Took mine 10 days to get connected. So I suppose yours would be the same or earlier if they are not hiccups.

Yep, I was using an D-LINK ADSL router myself before but switched to the BeBox instead. Its pretty good, its got 4 lan sockets, and also integrated wireless. Interface is very simple to use also. I have 3 pcs connected to the box plus wireless working. Works like a charm.

Hi i'm with Be also migrated in from IDNet and as already said exactly 10 days i can't fault them, at the moment using a Netgear DG834PN with no probs, im sure you will be pleased if you decide to go with them :money:

Billing is from the 1st of the month so if you joined on the 18th you will get billed from the 20th to the end of the month as the first 2 days connection is free.
