Co-op Card blocked at individual Asda petrol station

A couple of weeks ago I tried to use my "online" Co-op Cashminder Visa debit card at a Asda Petrol station Pay-at-pump facility near where I work on Merseyside.
The card was rejected by the Pay-at-pump facility because it's an "online" card BUT it was also rejected INSIDE the petrol station as well , despite there being sufficient funds in the account.
I contacted the Co-op who stated it's Asda's EPOS system and Asda are blaming my card.
The card works fine elswhere , even in Asda buying groceries! So, does anyone have any experience of their card being blocked by an individual store and a solution to this problem?
Thanking you in advance.

Do your shopping first and get cashback sufficient to cover the cost of your petrol.
Otherwise open an account at a different bank.0 -

If it works OK elsewhere, then there is a problem with that terminal. Security system will not block down to that level.
Have you tried again?
Once knew someone who had some chocolate on the chip... Stoped it working, but once cleaned off was fine.
So if it won't work 1st time, Give the chip a wipe.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

I don't think that "in Asda buying groceries" is 'ofline'. How do you know that any of 'elswhere' places were 'ofline' like 'Pay-at-pump' is likely to be?
The point I was trying to make is that the card is working perfectly in other shops and at the Post Office so highly unlikely to be anything to do with "online" vesus "offline".DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499

OK, I am new to this 'online/offline' business, but I think a basic account is likely to come with an 'online' card while Pay-at-pump is likely to be 'ofline'. If so, this explains why the card doesn't work.

I think the OP understands that the card won't work at the pump, the issue is that it was also rejected inside the petrol station at a terminal that should have been online.0 -
By "inside" do you mean you tried to pay a live cashier?
Online cards require a connection with the bank at the point of sale but offline cards don't and can be used at pay at pump and on trains and boats and planes where there is no connection.
Pay at pump terminals are offline and live cashier terminals should be online. If your card doesn't work then buy your petrol elsewhere but write to ASDA and tell them why you're not buying petrol there.0 -

Yes, I tried to pay a cashier INSIDE the petrol station but the card terminal refused to accept the card. Asda will not explain why their terminal will not accept my card...DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499

It might not be ASDA that is at fault: The new Smile (Co-operative Bank) current account I got last week cannot be credited because the Co-op is rejecting my credits. A faster payment today got rejected and my salary is due on the 28th Feb which I am also expecting to be rejected. So their payments systems could be faulty or down.
I wonder if anyone else is having problems with the Co-op Bank?0 -

So because of this does it mean you will start demanding things and move your account yet again!!!
Oh and my co-op card and account is working perfectly fine!!!Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0
